American Express Membership Rewards have announced that transfers to Velocity Frequent Flyer have been reactivated. Note that previous earn rates and conditions remain the same, including that points transferred out to Velocity Frequent Flyer cannot be transferred back to your Membership Rewards account.

You can again transfer American Express Membership Rewards Points to Velocity Frequent Flyer.

This will come in handy for those looking to make flight redemptions with Virgin Australia and who may be short Velocity points, especially with the impending domestic border restrictions being lifted over the coming weeks.

Further information regarding the changes can be found here.

Other reward programs such as Altitude Rewards, Amplify Rewards and NAB Rewards continue to restrict transfers to Velocity for the time being.

Our original guide on how to transfer points into Velocity Frequent Flyer follows.

How to transfer points into Velocity Frequent Flyer

It is always handy to have a stash of Velocity Points at your disposal when you start planning your next big flight redemption.

Apart from flying, there are plenty of other ways to keep your Velocity balance healthy and full, just from your normal daily spending and activities.

This guide will show you all the different ways you can transfer points into your Velocity account from external sources, such as other airline and rewards programs, credit cards and Flybuys.

Transfer airline points to Velocity

If you have some spare Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles lying around, these can be consolidated with your Velocity account.

When logged into your KrisFlyer account, head to ‘Profile’, ‘Partner programmes’ and add your Velocity account details there.

Points can be transferred between either program at a rate of 1.55 to 1. You will need a minimum of 5,000 KrisFlyer to send to Velocity, which comes out as 3,225 Velocity Points.

While you cannot transfer other airline points to Velocity, you can earn Velocity Points when flying other partner airlines by attaching your Velocity number to the booking.

Transfer credit card points to Velocity

Most major banks in Australia will have some sort of rewards credit card that can earn Velocity Points. These will either earn Velocity Points directly (e.g. 1.25 point per dollar spent with the American Express Velocity Platinum) or earn credit card reward points that can later be transferred to Velocity.

Participating merchants include American Express, ANZ, Commbank, NAB and Westpac.
