Mark your diaries. Qantas is shutting down Points Club and Green Tier on 8 December 2026. The date marks the next major milestone in changes first announced in February, which will also introduce new ways to earn Status Credits through everyday spending.
Members will be able to continue attaining Points Club or Green Tier until that date, with existing Points Club members able to enjoy their benefits for the remainder of their current and next membership year.
Last chance to grandfather benefits
Green Tier and Points Club both provide additional benefits to Qantas Frequent Flyers who engage with the program beyond flying.
Points Club rewards members who earn large numbers of Qantas Points through a combination of flying and everyday activities, while Green Tier provides additional benefits to members who complete a range of sustainability-related activities.
In particular, if you enjoy the ability to earn Status Credits on Qantas Classic Flight Rewards, it’s worth locking in Points Club before 8 December. After Points Club closes, that perk will eventually migrate to a currently unknown credit card.
Green Tier is shutting immediately on 8 December, and members who have qualified for its benefits (10,000 Qantas Points or 50 Status Credits) will have 90 days to finalise their choice.
Qantas confirms Status Credit rollover date
Another significant change is the introduction of Status Credit rollover. From 8 December, members will be able to carry up to 50% of their excess Status Credits into their next membership year. The rollover will be capped at:

This could make it easier for members who narrowly miss retaining their existing status to maintain their tier in the following year. But it is also replacing Loyalty Bonuses, which will be phased out next year.
The remaining status changes will arrive in early 2027, including the removal of separate attain and retain requirements, new Silver benefits and changes to Lifetime Status milestones.
Status Credits coming to everyday spending
Also from 8 December, members will be able to earn up to 140 Status Credits per membership year through ten different categories of activity on the ground.
This includes up to 20 Status Credits from Qantas Points-earning credit cards, while everyday shopping, including through Everyday Rewards at Woolworths, can provide up to 10 Status Credits.
Importantly, these Status Credits will also count towards Lifetime Status, potentially making it easier for highly engaged members to reach Qantas’ Lifetime Silver, Gold or Platinum milestones.
While we will hear about the categories soon, the actual ‘mechanics’ of earning each tier will be revealed later. Andrew Glance, Qantas Loyalty CEO, confirms that each category will have a different threshold to activate the bonus Status Credits.

Jetstar Classic Upgrades arrive in September
Qantas will also introduce Jetstar Classic Upgrades in early September, giving members a new way to use Qantas Points to upgrade eligible Jetstar flights into Business Class.
The new option coincides with the refit of Jetstar’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet, which will more than double the size of the Business Class cabin from 21 to 44 seats. At launch, examples include:
- Melbourne–Singapore: 37,000 Qantas Points
- Sydney–Osaka: 45,300 Qantas Points
Classic Upgrades will include 30kg checked baggage, meals and priority boarding. Upgrade requests will initially be available for flights booked through Jetstar’s website, with Qantas.com bookings to follow.

The retirement of Points Club and Green Tier represents a significant change for members who have relied on these sub-programs for additional benefits. Make sure to finalise your plans before 8 December 2026 if you want to take advantage of the benefits one last time.
Other program changes, such as removing the ‘retain’ threshold for the current status tiers, are tipped to continue in early 2027.
