Perth is where distance-based reward pricing works hardest in your favour, based on the published one-way Economy reward price of its headline routes. Because both major Australian programs price rewards by miles flown, Perth’s proximity to Asia places key routes in cheaper pricing zones than those from Australia’s east coast. Why the reward tables favour the west
The zone pricing is where Perth’s biggest advantage becomes clear. A one-way Economy Classic Flight Reward from Perth to Singapore costs 23,300 Qantas Points as of July 2026, the same 2,401 to 3,600-mile band price as Sydney to Bali. This includes taxes, fees, and carrier charges. The airline imposes surcharges on reward bookings, quoted at the time of booking. From Singapore, you can access the broader Oneworld network. The full zone and cabin pricing sits in the Qantas Classic Flight Reward tables. The band logic keeps paying south of the equator too. The distance from Perth to Bali is about 1,625 miles, within the 1,201 to 2,400-mile range. So an Economy Classic Reward there costs 20,700 Qantas Points, Tasman money for a Bali holiday. The London nonstop is the aspirational play, priced from its lower zone in every cabin, though premium reward seats on it are scarce. The practical approach is the usual one. Classic Rewards releases up to 353 days out for elite members. More seats become available closer to departure, and Classic Plus keeps every Qantas flight purchasable at variable pricing once fixed-price seats are gone.

Perth travellers also benefit from the booking rules. Classic Rewards carry no online booking fee, changes cost 5,000 Points per person and cancellations 6,000, as of July 2026. Upgrades are a transcontinental specialty, from 10,900 Points to lift a Perth to Sydney Flexible Economy fare into Business. On a five-hour flight, that upgrade can be one of the better uses of a small points balance.
Velocity Points from Perth
Velocity’s strength in Perth comes from its partner airlines. All Nippon Airways flies Perth to Tokyo Narita and is bookable as a Reward Seat, Velocity’s fixed-price reward inventory, on the Virgin Australia website. This gives Western Australia a non-stop points route to Japan that neither Australian airline offers. South African Airways offers Perth to Johannesburg as a partner redemption. It is one of the few practical points routes from Africa to anywhere in Australia. Singapore Airlines provides access to Singapore Changi and beyond. With the caution that Velocity now adds carrier charges to Singapore Airlines redemptions. And Air New Zealand’s Perth to Auckland flying sits within the trans-Tasman codeshare. This earns Velocity Points and Status Credits on VA-coded fares but limits redemptions to Points + Pay rather than Reward Seats.
Virgin Australia’s own aircraft anchor the domestic side. Where transcontinental Business at 35,500 Velocity Points remains the redemption Perth collectors target first. The earn engine is unchanged. Bank points convert at 2 to 1 into Velocity Points from ANZ Rewards, NAB Rewards, the Amplify Rewards family. Regional Western Australia is Velocity territory as well, with demand-tier pricing that has put Perth to Kalgoorlie Reward Seats from 5,900 Points plus around $70. The standing rules apply everywhere. Reward Seat bookings earn no Points and no Status Credits (the separate currency that counts towards status tiers), and carrier charges are quoted at booking.
The wildcards: KrisFlyer and the Air New Zealand build-up
Two more doors deserve a Perth collector’s attention. KrisFlyer treats Perth well by design. The Singapore hop is short, Singapore Airlines adds no fuel surcharges to its own award tickets, and the November 2025 reprice cut Economy Saver rates from Australia to Asia by 5 per cent.
