Many Point Hacks readers are already Qantas Frequent Flyer members. But in case you (or your interested friends and family) are not, this post covers one of Qantas’ more antiquated policies – a joining fee for frequent flyer membership.

Qantas usually charges a $99.50 joining fee per person for Australian residents. But you can save that money by simply clicking through one of the free links below! Most overseas residents can also get it free, while New Zealand residents charged NZ$60.

Are you a Qantas Frequent Flyer member already? Then these codes are useful for signing up friends and family when needed.

Qantas runs promotions for free memberships with their frequent flyer program partners. So, it’s possible to find a range of promotional application codes, as these links follow a common format.

  1. (This is a special code advertised by Qantas Frequent Flyer itself, offering free membership to the family of their frequent flyer members.)
I tried to get a free membership as suggested by including my wife on my existing membership. Perhaps this is a new year thingy for 2025??

From QANTAS: “Can you add a spouse to Qantas Frequent Flyer?

No, Qantas Frequent Flyer membership is available just for individuals. You can only earn Qantas Points for eligible transactions made in your own name – each family member will need to have their own membership to be able to earn points.”
https://www.google.com/search?q=how%20do%20i%20include%20my%20wife%20on%20qantas%20frequent%20flyer It would be good to confirm one way or other. We do not have a QANTAS credit card. We are members of Woolworths loyalty program and my wife now has a FREE membership via Woolies. Terrific.

    1. Hi Russ, you can’t add your wife to your existing membership as they are for individuals only. However, she can join with her own membership for free using one of the codes in this article.

      1. Install the Qantas App? It (currently) has a “Join for free” signup button.
(I discovered this after I used the QFF “signup your family” link)

  2. Thanks for the hack to join Qantas frequent flyer for free. Tried via Qantas website, it said free to join, & they tried to hit me up for joining fed

    1. Hi Tracey, we’ve checked the links above and all seem to still have the fee waiver activated. If you can let us know which link you tried that didn’t work correctly, we can look into it. Otherwise, try one of the other links in the story to get your free membership sorted.

  3. Just signed my daughter up for free, got a Freq Flyer number and have now claimed a couple of recent flights. So far so good!

  4. I tried family and everyday rewards both say it’s free but says there’s a problem with my card, as they don’t ask for card info, as it’s free?

  5. Go through the machinations of booking a ticket (make it business, international to be sure I haven’t tried Econ/domestic for the rabbit hole). When you get to page for entering pax details for the booking there is a link to join for free under the block for the “frequent flyer” number.

  6. Thank you for the tip.

Can confirm the link for Deliveroo still works as of the 18/11/2019.

Just signed up for free! Yay!

    1. You’ll need a non Australian address. Any address would do, they just send you a membership card which you won’t need if you don’t every credit any points to BA.

Even if you do, unless you get status with BA, you won’t need anything in the mail from them.

Friends/family would be simplest and just ask them to chuck the mail.

The only issue you might encounter is if you ever make a booking with BA when logged into your account, e.g. if using Avios. Then you would probably want a legitimate address of a close family member in play.

It’s a stupid restriction now the Qantas / BA join venture has been dissolved.
