Summing up
If you don’t frequently stay at one particular hotel chain, it can be more lucrative to earn airline frequent flyer points instead. Qantas Hotels is worth including in your price comparison research versus Hotels.com, Expedia, and the like, given that all hotels booked through their platform earn points.
Read our separate detailed guide to earning points when booking accommodation through Qantas Hotels or through Airbnb. Plus, we explain how you could directly earn Qantas Points through hotel loyalty programs such as Hilton Honors or IHG Rewards Club.
The regular Qantas Hotels earning rate is 3 points per dollar spent at over 200,000 partner hotels. Qantas Business Rewards members are able to earn extra points by including their ABN on the booking.
With all other things like price being equal, you are earning a points kickback worth ~6% when booking through Qantas Hotels if you value your Qantas Points at 1.9 cents per point. That reaches closer to ~18% when there’s a triple-point offer!

My business class reward flight Syd to Tokyo was 82,000 so practically a ‘free’ flight (excluding airport charges).
Looks good to me in this case
My two vouchers (UAD100 and AUD50) useable to book QF Hotels have disappeared from my online account coinciding with the end of the Points Plus membership year although their validity extended for months.
The rollover of 100 status credits also not honoured. How the hell do you get that fixed?
Is it too much to expect that when an airline promises loyalty benefits they actually deliver on such without having to spend goodness knows how much person, time and effort to fix their incompetent mess?!
When you interview these airline dudes, and it’s just and idea, how about you confront them with the reality of the impacts on your readers arising from their own stupefying incompetence and failures to do their jobs?
No doubt this promo will be done long before I get get any sense out these fcukiwts and be able to stack the vouchers with the bonus earn.
I was looking at the ‘Hotel Deals’ tab. The hotels I checked on Qantas were priced either the same or marginally more expensive than the best rate offered by the hotel directly; but the difference was small.
I’m booking 10 nights in New York at a cost of $450 per night. I’m earning 4 Qantas points per dollar (ABN + 3 points) = 18000 points all up. This is enough for a business class flight between Sydney-Brisbane, worth around $600-700.
If I make the same booking through hotels.com, I’ll earn a free night worth about $200.
