With the new-look CommBank Yello now live, Velocity Frequent Flyer members have some introductory offers to celebrate the new partnership. On the table are two promotions – you have to opt in to Auto Transfer by 5 May 2027 to be eligible for: no annual fee for the first year and 20% bonus Velocity Points on transfer (up to 20,000 points).
The new offers put Velocity as one of the stand-out transfer partners in the new CommBank Yello ecosystem (alongside Qatar Airways Privilege Club). With points transfers going live from early November 2026, here’s what you need to know.
This guide is brought to you in partnership with Velocity Frequent Flyer and Commonwealth Bank.
How CommBank Yello x Velocity Auto Transfer works
The new Velocity Auto Transfer option allows eligible CommBank Yello customers to automatically convert their CommBank Yello points into Velocity Points each month. This is currently slated to start on 5 November 2026.
There is going to be a $99 annual fee to opt in for Velocity Auto Transfer, but this is being waived if you enrol before 5 May 2027. If you do so, you’ll also get the second offer of 20% bonus Velocity Points on Auto Transfers for six months, up to 20,000 extra Velocity Points from when you opt in.
The standard conversion rate is 2.5 Yello points to 1 Velocity Point, which is the strongest airline transfer rate available in CommBank Yello (tied with Qatar Airways). Here’s how many points you need for example redemptions.
| Example redemption | Yello Points to transfer to Velocity (regular rate) |
|---|---|
| Sydney-Melbourne (Economy, VA) from 5,900 Velocity Points* | 14,750 pts |
| Perth-Sydney (Economy, VA) from 13,500 Velocity Points | 33,750 pts |
| Perth-Sydney (Business, VA) 35,500 Velocity Points | 88,750 pts |
| Brisbane-Singapore (Business, SQ) 74,000 Velocity Points | 185,000 pts |
| Melbourne-London (Business, QR) 158,500 Velocity Points | 396,250 pts |
Once you’ve opted in and linked your Velocity account, your eligible CommBank Yello points can be converted automatically rather than sitting in your CommBank account until you decide what to do with them. You can also opt out anytime, though the annual fee won’t be refunded if you do so.
Pre-registration for the Velocity offer
If you’re eligible and interested in using CommBank Yello points for Velocity, it’s worth registering during the pre-registration period to save time. Doing so now means that you’ll automatically enrol in Velocity Auto Transfer from 5 November 2026, along with the associated offers. The first sweep of points will happen from 25 November 2026.
Pre-register for Velocity Auto Transfer by tapping ‘CBA Yello’ in the CommBank app. Scroll down to ‘Get more from CommBank Yello’, find the Velocity offer and provide your details.
Other ways to build your Velocity balance
CommBank Yello can be a key ongoing way to earn Velocity Points through banking activity. But there are also plenty of other ways to keep the stream of Velocity Points flowing into your account. For example, you could potentially build a Velocity balance through a combination of:
- CommBank Yello: Earn CommBank Yello points through eligible CommBank activity, including home loans.
- Velocity-earning credit cards: Earn Velocity Points from eligible card spending with other banks.
- Travel: Earn through eligible hotels, car hire, DiDi and more.
- Flying: You could earn on flights with Virgin Australia and partner airlines.
- Shopping and entertainment: You could earn with purchases via the Velocity Store, movie tickets via Event and Village Cinemas.
- Transfer partners: Move eligible rewards points into Velocity, such as from Flybuys (which you can supplement by shopping at Coles, for example).
If you’re already earning Velocity Points from your credit card spending, flights and other partners, CommBank Yello can sit alongside those existing streams rather than replacing them. You can see the full details of the new partnership on the Velocity website.
