How to enjoy a US$20 Doha dining credit from Qatar Airways and Virgin Australia

Transit snacks are on the house when flying with the two airlines to Doha and beyond.

Connecting through Doha anytime in the first half of 2026? Keep your boarding pass handy – it could be worth US$20 (around QAR 70) off dining and snacks at Qatar’s Hamad International Airport.

During check-in for a Qatar Airways flight at Perth last year, I noticed a flyer at the counter mentioning this dining credit promo. With one small tweak to the booking, it worked flawlessly in Doha later.

The Orea Café is a popular place to redeem the credit.

How does the promotion work?

In a joint promotion between Qatar Airways and Virgin Australia, both airlines’ frequent flyer members are eligible to claim a US$20 dining voucher at Doha when travelling on an eligible flight (and yes, reward seat bookings also count). There are two ways to access the offer:

  • Fly on Virgin Australia’s long-haul flights between Australia and Doha (VA1-29) and add your Velocity Frequent Flyer or Qatar Airways Privilege Club number to the booking before check-in. The US$20 credit will be attached to the eligible boarding pass to or from Doha. The offer is valid for travel up to 12 June 2026.
  • Fly on Qatar Airways’ flights between Australia and Doha (QR flight numbers) and add your Velocity Frequent Flyer or Qatar Airways Privilege Club number to the booking before check-in. The US$20 credit will be applied to the boarding pass for the eligible flights to or from Doha. The offer is valid for travel up to 11 June 2026.

As I was flying Qatar Airways from Perth to Doha (QR901), I just needed to add my Privilege Club membership to the booking to be eligible. The lovely check-in staff were able to make the switch at the desk.

Sure, it’s pricey, but chocolate is a good option if you don’t want a meal.

In Doha, simply visit one of the 50 or so participating retailers and make a purchase. You can scan one boarding pass to receive a US$20 discount per transaction. As you can’t stack multiple discounts, if you’re travelling in a group, everyone will need to make their own purchase.

Any amounts not spent are forfeited, and any balances above the voucher amount must be settled by cash or card. Unfortunately, the offer is not valid at Starbucks, Joe & The Juice, La Vita Café, Louis Vuitton Lounge, or Last Call. But there are still plenty of places to choose from in the list below.

Participating retailers:

Airport Juice Bar, Airport Tandoor, Baladna Express, Baladna Mart, Basta, Brioche Doree, Burger King, Burgeri, Chaclate, Chapati & Karak, Coffee Shop Company, Comptoir Libanais, Costa Coffee, Daily Chef Nouf, Day2day Eats, Eat Greek, Emporio Armani Caffé, Emporio Armani Ristorante, Evergreen Organics, Fendi Caffe, Flat White, Flo Café, Giraffe, Gordon Ramsay Burger, Harrods Tea Room, Illy, Jaipur, Jamocha Café, Jones The Grocer Express, Jones The Grocer Social, KFC, Le Grand Comptoir, Le Petit Belge, Le Petit Camion, Levito, Maia Coffee & Chocolate, Noodle Cart, Oreo Café, Ralph’s Coffee, Red, Remman Café, Shawarma Station, Simit Sarayi, Slicy, Snowflake, Street Pizza Gordon Ramsay, Sweet Stop, Usta, Venchi, Wagamama, Wok To Walk, Work & Fly, Yo Sushi and Yum Cha.

Summing up

As we had just come from a refreshing visit to the Qatar Airways Al Mourjan Business Lounge for a shower and breakfast, we didn’t need another meal. Instead, we headed to the busy Oreo Café nearby and bought a few treats for the road.

The total came to QAR 67 (~US$18.3 or A$27.3), and the dining credit offset the whole amount. We won’t say no to free chocolate!

Successfully redeeming the VA/QR dining credit.
