For many small business owners, a credit card is more than just a payment tool. It can help manage cash flow, simplify expense tracking and unlock a range of rewards from spending that’s already happening.
Yet many Australian SMEs still rely on personal credit cards for business expenses, potentially missing out on benefits specifically designed for business owners. That’s becoming even more relevant with the recent changes announced by the Reserve Bank of Australia and how this could reshape how Australians earn rewards on personal cards.
If your business regularly pays suppliers, purchases inventory, books travel or covers everyday operating expenses, a business credit card can turn that spending into a significant stream of Qantas Points – with up to 200,000 bonus Qantas Points* on offer for new sign-ups.

Why consider a business card?
One of the biggest advantages of a business credit card is the ability to separate business and personal spending. This can make bookkeeping easier and provide greater visibility over company expenses.
Other useful features include additioanl cardholders (i.e. employee cards), potentially higher credit limits compared to personal cards, detailed reporting and rewards tailored to business travel. With Qantas Business Rewards (QBR), you have the ability to transfer the Qantas Points earned by your business to a Qantas Frequent Flyer.
Read on to learn about our top three picks, each offering up to 200,000 Qantas Points* as of August 2026.

Meanwhile, the standard rate is 1.25 points per dollar on all eligible spend, except for government spend, which is 0.5 points per dollar.² However, note that there is a cap of 500,000 Qantas Points per calendar year. After that, your earn rate drops to 0.75 points per dollar.

Your business will earn 1.25 Qantas Points per $1 of everyday spend, which does not include annual fees, late payment fee and fees and charges for foreign currencies. Your business will earn 0.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent at participating merchants classified as ‘utilities’ including gas, water and electricity providers; ‘government’ including the Australian Taxation Office, the Australian Postal Corporation, federal/state and local government bodies; and ‘insurance’ excluding insurances offered by American Express. Industry specific earn rate may apply when you use a payment account, payment aggregator, services of a third party or online retailers that sell goods for another merchant. All other earn rates (Qantas products, services and government, utilities and insurances spend) will remain unchanged. The points threshold is based on eligible Qantas Points earned during a calendar year and will be reset on 1 January each year. Qantas Points earned by all Card Members on a Card Account contribute to the 500,000 points threshold each calendar year. Bonus points earned from Acquisition bonus offers and marketing campaigns are excluded from the threshold.

Don’t overlook Qantas Business Rewards
While you should certainly consider the sign-up bonus first, there’s also plenty of reasons to hold the card for longer. If you’re not already a Qantas Business Rewards (QBR) member, you’ll be able to join for free after taking out a card. QBR lets businesses ‘double-dip’ on employee travel earnings, while also accessing discounts on fares and Qantas Club membership.
- As a Level 1 member, your business earns 20 points for every 100 points the traveller earns. You also get up to 6% (excluding taxes, fees and carrier charges) off the base fare of selected flights, and 20% off Qantas Club.
- If you reach Level 2 (earn at least 15,000 points from business travel, you earn 30 points for every 100 points the traveller earns. Your flight discount is bumped up to 9% (excluding taxes, fees and carrier charges) off the base fare of selected flights, and you can also get 30% off Qantas Club.
- For high-flying SMEs who unlock Level 3 (earn at least 80,000 points from business travel), you’ll get 40 points per 100 points the traveller earns. Your flight discount is bumped up to 10% (excluding taxes, fees and carrier charges) off the base fare of selected flights, and you can also nominate one traveller to fast-track their status to Gold.

Because the business and traveller can earn points from the same booking, the value can compound quickly for organisations with regular travel requirements.
Which card is right for your business?
