Looking to rack up Qantas Frequent Flyer Points for your business? Then it could be worth considering the American Express Qantas Business Rewards Card. With no pre-set spending limit, transacting is a little more flexible, with up to 51 days to pay for purchases.

Points earned are credited to the company’s Qantas Business Rewards account. From there, Qantas Points can be used for anyone, or transferred to anyone. For instance, the business could transfer Qantas Points to the business owner, business partners, employees, suppliers and more.

Earning points on the Amex Qantas Business Rewards Card

Here’s a look at how many points could be earned on eligible purchases with the Amex Qantas Business Rewards Card.

  • Qantas products and services: 2 Qantas Points per $1 (uncapped). This includes Qantas flight bookings in AUD, Qantas Holidays, Qantas Club membership fees and more.
  • Government spend (including ATO), utilities and insurance: 0.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent (uncapped).
  • All other everyday spend: 1.25 Qantas Points per $1 spent until 500,000 Qantas Points have been earned on the Card Account per calendar year. This includes points earned via other transaction categories, but excludes any bonus points earned on sign-up. Above this threshold, the earn rate reverts to 0.75 Qantas Points per $1 spent, uncapped, for the remainder of that calendar year.

There’s no extra fee to issue up to 99 employee cards. This allows the business to earn Qantas Points on eligible business costs incurred by employees. As with the points earned via the Primary Card, these all accrue to the company’s Qantas Business Rewards account.

American Express also supports Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay. Qantas Points accrue at the usual rates when making transactions through a mobile wallet. For ease of reconciliation, businesses can also set up direct transaction feeds into accounting programs like MYOB, Quicken and Xero, or export transaction lists to Excel.

Travel rewards and benefits with Qantas

The Amex Qantas Business Rewards Card also includes these core benefits for businesses.

  • 2x Qantas lounge passes every year. Subject to space limitations, these can be redeemed for entry to domestic Qantas Clubs and Qantas International Business Lounges (excluding LAX).
  • Free Qantas Business Rewards membership. That’s a waiver of the usual $89.50 joining fee.
  • Travel Insurance. The primary cardholder, their spouse and employee cardholders may be covered by a range of insurance when paying for a return trip using the card. This includes medical emergency expenses cover, business trip completion cover, trip cancellation and amendment cover, and personal liability cover.

American Express also offers speedy card replacement, if required. The company says that replacement cards can usually be delivered within 48 hours, almost anywhere in the world.

Point Hacks pro tip: Before relying on travel insurance provided by a credit card, it’s wise to check that the cover provided is suitable for your needs, and that you qualify. Common exclusions can include one-way flights, extended journeys, high-risk activities and areas with high level warnings on Smartraveller. Refer to the PDS or contact the Card issuer or insurance provider for more information.
