Qantas-specific benefits of Qantas Money Platinum card
The following benefits are available outside of Qantas Points earned from spend:
Get up to 20% off selected domestic flights for you and up to 8 friends once per Anniversary Year when you book with your card via the booking portal on your Qantas Money account
Two single-entry Qantas Club Domestic or select Qantas-operated International Business Lounge Invitations each cardholder anniversary year
Complimentary domestic and international Travel Insurance
Discounted Companion Fares
Cardholders can take advantage of Discounted Companion Fares. You can take up to eight passengers at a discounted rate on selected Qantas domestic companion flights. You must make your booking with your Qantas Money Platinum card via the booking portal on your Qantas Money account.
As such, you will receive a 10% discount on red e-deal, 15% on Flexible Economy and 20% on Business fares.
Note that the discount is only applicable to the base fare, not the total fare including taxes. In addition, the terms state that:
Companion Fare Benefit discounts are not available on all fare classes and in some instances, there may be sale fares available to the general public that are cheaper than the fares offered under the Companion Fare Benefit.
Therefore, the deepest discount fares may not be matched by what you can earn from the companion fare discount either.
Discounted Companion Fares are only usable once a year and can’t be reinstated in case of a cancelled booking. Also, the Primary Card Member must be travelling on the booking.
Overall, this benefit is most useful for families booking in peak periods. Red e-Deal fares may not be available and you are unlikely to be able to cancel.
Qantas Lounge Invitations
Enjoy two Qantas Complimentary Lounge Invitations each year on your card anniversary. These Invitations can be used at domestic Qantas Club and Qantas-operated International Business Lounges. Note that the Los Angeles Lounge at Tom Bradley Terminal International Terminal is excluded.
Qantas Club Invitations are digital and can be viewed via your Qantas Frequent Flyer account.
The Qantas Money Credit Card Concierge is a service that can provide assistance to primary Qantas Money cardholders for travel, entertainment, lifestyle and shopping tasks. This includes restaurant reservations or sourcing tickets to events. There is no extra charge for this service. Call the Qantas Money Concierge on 1300 992 700 anytime: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
How do I pay my Qantas Money Credit Card?
You can pay your Qantas Money Credit Card through BPay (Biller Code: 266536 and your card number as the reference), or direct debit an amount of your choosing from your bank account through Easi-Pay. Alternatively, take your Qantas Money Credit Card to any Australia Post office displaying the Bank@Post symbol, together with your EFTPOS or cash payment. More information here.
Summing up: the Qantas Money Platinum card
The Qantas Money Platinum Card is a solid option for earning Qantas Points from your spending, with no points cap. You’ll need to factor in the restrictions mentioned above on government transactions though.
Make sure you understand all the terms and conditions for the Discounted Companion Fares to make the most of this benefit.
The extra 0.5 Qantas Points per dollar earned on international transactions helps when using your card on international spending. But while you’ll pick up an extra 0.5 Qantas Points per dollar vs domestic spending, you’ll pay an equivalent additional fee of 6c per point (0.5 points per dollar with the 3% additional fee for international transactions).
You should consider the Qantas Money Platinum card if you are looking for a direct Qantas-earning card. Especially if you do spend with Qantas frequently.

Since moving to NAB the approval process here is an absolute mess. NAB have asked for the same documents 5 times, don’t leave emails, call me at times I can’t have a chat with, and outsource their customer service teams offshore with horrible audio quality. After almost a month of waiting I’ve been declined with no reason given despite my income rising since I had this card last two years ago. (provider was Citi then).
Apologies if this has already been answered, do I get the 80k in points if I haven’t held this particular card only in the last 12 months? Or if I’ve held any Qantas Credit Card?
There is not much value in these card deals anymore, as the card companies have substantially ramped up annual fees in recent year, and the bonus points offerings have decreased. Points per dollar spent also seem to have declined. Not sure why anyone would bother anymore.
Sounded great as will be travelling
Applied sent all paperwork off and we kept getting calls for more and more paperwork.
I had sent heaps off only to be asked each day for more and a credit card statement
Not good
wow the comments dated back to 2019 and how interesting to compare the number of points this card used to offer (up to 100k) and the annual fee it used to charge ($199) to what it is offering now, which seems to also be the trend for other frequent flyer point earning credit cards.
Here’s a tricky question. Hope someone has the answer. I have the Bankwest Qantas Transaction account with the debit card that earns points. Does that count as earning points on a credit card? Technically it’s a debit card. I don’t earn points per dollar but per transaction (just 3pts!). I’d love to get the bonus 20k FF points on this card but don’t want to have to have an argument over points with Qantas on a technicality…
Hi Tom, that’s right. No credit card on the market offers outright Qantas Platinum status (or any other status, for that matter). The ‘Platinum’ in this case refers to the tier of the credit card itself.
“The annual fee on your current credit card will be prorated from the time of card approval and refunded back to that card. The fee for your new credit card will be applied, and prorated, based on your original card approval date.”
Hi All does anyone know when the 100000 point offer commenced for the Qantas Premier Platinum Mastercard, my guess is around Sept 2020… Also what was the prior offer for the card please?
I do not fly often enough to justify the card for those purposes. It would purely be to collect points on monthly spend.
1. How much do you need to put through the credit card on a monthly basis to make up enough points to break even?
2. I am doing a home renovation so was thinking it is the perfect time to get some points for this period. Is this a good idea
A few things to note with this card. Since it’s not tied to a bank I’ve found I can’t:
– Connect my card account to budget apps for real-time management.
– There’s no Google/Apple Pay.
– Exports are only in CSV.
– Can’t pre-schedule BPAY.
I’ll give it a year to see if the perks outweigh the annoyances.
I have this card currently, however is there a way to future date a BPay payment? From my end it appears that I am only able to set a payment for todays date.
A maximum of 100 Status Credits will roll over to Points Club Plus members’ next Membership Year. Status Credits that are rolled over will contribute to attaining or retaining a member’s tier status, except for attaining or retaining Platinum One status. There is no mention of status credits needing to be earned from any specific activity.
Thanks Daniel, would you also happen to know if the 75 status credit will count towards your lifetime status?
Hi guys,
I have recently gotten the Citi Qantas Premier credit card.
Does that rule me out of the points bonuses associated with this?
Thanks for all of this info!
Ash
You are still eligible for the bonus points on this card, as they are different providers (Citi Qantas Premier is Citi and Qantas Premier Platinum is Qantas Money). Both cards are administered by Citi though, so they will know that you have just recently applied for the Citi Qantas Premier card as well. Make sure to keep that in mind when applying, and you may wish to space out applications (ie at least 3 months between them).
Replying to Trisha regarding gift card: I bought some egift card from Woolworths (5% discount) and I can say I got both normal points and bonus points (ie eligible spend).
Anyway I have a question: this card gives 20K bonus points every month after $1.5K eligible monthly spend; last three months I got 20K points each and this month (moment ago) I got 25K points. I am not complaining, just wondering if this is changed and I will get 25K next month 🙂
Actually I have another question: Lounge passes, do I need to call Qantas/bank to request them or they will be sent automatically. Reason being: I have a number of lounge passes coming (from several different cards), some I have to request and I can’t remember which one I did and I have 4 sitting in my account atm.
The ability to meet the $1500 spend criteria is limited if you can’t use bpay. Or have I missed something here? The exclusions appear quite extensive do unless your grocery bill each month is to feed a family of 8 I’m not sure how else the spend can be met.
Some direct debit I’m assuming is allowed ( gym membership etc)?
I’m also assuming that gift cards are not classed as cash advance?
But no bpay limits your ability to ‘forward pay’ on bills.
Any other suggestions? Otherwise it’s a high monthly consistent spend which may be irresponsible for some who don’t spend $1500 each month on what appears to be groceries and shopping.
As you have pointed out, one of the best ways to meet the minimum spend criteria is to ‘forward pay’ your bills, however, nearly all utility, telecommunication, private health and other service providers will provide other payment options in addition to bpay, such as entering your credit card details directly into their payment page on their site, or using PayPal.
If neither of these options is available with your providers, you could look at making forward payments using third party providers such as B2BPay or RewardPay, however, these options come with an added fee.
Thanks for your quick response Daniel!
Would you be able to clarify regarding whether the purchase of gift cards counts as eligible spend? I’ve read that this may not count.
Hi Trisha
Unfortunately, gift cards will not count as eligible spend.
My partner and I currently don’t have a credit card but I am looking at applying for this one. I have two questions that I am hoping someone may be able to assist with.
1. If I apply for the card, is he able to use it too? or does he need to apply for his own?.
2. Am I able to use the card to pay my general home bills (water, glass electricity, rates)
3. Can the outstanding balance be payed by BPAY at home? or do you need to go to the post office.
4. Im unclear how would be the best way to early the frequent flyer points (where do you need to shop to ear these points)
You can elect to have your partner be an additional cardholder, which costs an extra $50 per year. All charges placed on this additional card will go on to your account, and you being responsible for them. He can also use your own card as well if you’re happy to provide him with your PIN details. But once again, you will be responsible for these charges
Yes, all these expenses can be paid using the card.
Yes, you can use your online banking to pay your credit card using BPay.
So this card is issued by Citibank and Citi Australia is listed under the supported Apple Pay banks. Is Apple Pay definitely not supported? It is deal breaker for me as I have been using Tap/Apple Pay for many years now and often don’t leave the house with my wallet as it is all in my phone.
Hi Charlie
From this list, it appears that they mention the specific card if it is available, and not just the blanket provider, as many people don’t know for example that the Qantas Premier Platinum is issued by Citi.
Having had this card and not been advised of this functionality, I am quite sure that it is not available, however, to be safe though, why not give Qantas Money a call and get this confirmed from them?
I asked one guy at Customer Service but his reply didn’t inspire me much (ie not sure himself): 20K bonus points after $1500 spent PER MONTH for FIRST 6 months. My question: is this calendar month or statement month ? The CSR told me calendar month but not very convincingly as I told him: so if I received my card on the 29th or 30th of the month, I won’t have much time to spend $1500 for the first month.
So does anyone knows calendar or statement month ?
I can confirm that it is based on statement month and not calendar month. So for each month, you will have c.30 days to meet the minimum spend requirement.
I applied for the card and the first statement was generated before I had the physical card to activate. It had a zero balance, so if it goes off the statements rather than calendar months many people may be unable to achieve the full 120k offer through no fault of their own.
Hi Warren
It is best to contact Qantas Money, explain the situation to them, and confirm that you will earn 20,000 points for 6 months rather than just 5, as your first statement should not have preceded receiving your card.
Card benefits are good for a MasterCard option in addition to my AMEX Ultimate card.
But the admin around card issuance is shambolic. It’s done by Citibank and they are inept.
Approved, but 2 weeks later my card hadn’t turned up. Wife’s card arrived in 2 days.
Called and they are “having problems with sending cards”. WTF? You’re a cc company.
They reissued a new card for me. Two weeks later that still hasn’t turned up.
But the (now cancelled) first card did arrive. Five calls to Citi support so far.
Lesson – Citibank CC admin is either profoundly inept or overwhelmed. Or both.
Don’t expect to get this card quickly,
Hi all, I’m look at this card, reading the fine print, I’m trying to work out what you can actually spent on this card. Can’t use it on Bpay, cant pay rego, cant pay rates, is Water bills Ok ?
how about power bills, as you normally have a bpay section where you would pay this, or is there another way.
Like many cards, the ability to earn points from government spend is generally not available, however for the purposes of meeting the minimum spend requirement, these will count. In fact, Qantas Money has defined eligible spend as being any purchases that “do not include; Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Refunds, Chargebacks and Special Promotions”.
I can see no mention anywhere of the possibility of adding a second cardholder to this. If this is the case is their any reason why myself and my husband could each apply for seperate cards at the same time. Also do you know if they offer free insurance cover for an extra fee for existing health conditions please.
Both you and your husband can separately apply for this card, and if you are approved, you will be eligible for double the bonus points as long as you both meet the minimum spend criteria.
In regards to insurance cover for pre-existing conditions, we recommend calling Qantas Money directly about this and make sure to get any confirmation of cover from them in writing.
I just rang Citibank to check if I was eligible but not sure if they told me the correct information as she was a bit vague. They advised that this $120k QF pts promotion is for “new to bank” customers only.
I closed a Premier Qantas card last November, but currently have a Citi rewards card.
I’m happy to apply via your link if you can confirm if I would be eligible.
Qantas Money (administered through Citibank) advised Point Hacks that you are only ineligible for this promotion if you currently hold this card, or closed it within the last 6 months. I would contact them again to re-check this.
Rejected!
Excellent credit score, self-employed medical professional with 250k-300k pa income.
No other credit cards.
No applications within the last 12 months.
No dependents or debts.
A bit puzzled to say the least.
Thanks for your reply Daniel. What do they mean by ‘ticket’ – I have already paid for my flights but I have not yet booked accommodation – if I spend more than $500 on accommodation am I covered?
Regarding travel insurance, does the below mean that you have to pay for your flight using this credit card? I have already booked flights so I assume my trip would not be covered if I take up this card?
Cover is activated and effective when You pay a minimum of
$500 and/or pay the full amount of the return overseas travel
ticket by charging the payment to your Qantas Premier Credit
Card or by redeeming Qantas points earned on the Qantas
Premier Credit Card.
Yes that’s right. For your current trip, you are not covered if you used a different credit card.
In the future, if you pay for a return overseas trip less than $500 fully on the card, or at least $500 worth for trips in excess of $500, then you will be covered.
Are the applicants supposed to spend $1500 every month for 6 months ($9000 in total) for this 120k points, or do they simply have to spend $1500 in total within 6 months?
Hi there. In the fine print / important information for this card offer, it reads that this promotion is limited to new Qantas Premier Platinum cardholders. We currently have the Qantas Premier Everyday card, so does that mean we’d be eligible?
Thanks, Nik
Great everyday card for points, been using it for the past 18 months.
One minor annoyance about its complimentary insurance – despite it having “global hire car excess waiver cover”, the fine print reads “You must take up all comprehensive motor insurance offered by the Car Rental Company, whether discretionary or mandatory” – which essentially renders this excess waiver cover useless.
Basically all car rental companies include comprehensive motor insurance in the package, but it often comes with a huge excess. The global hire car excess waiver cover from Qantas waives the huge excess (or big part of it). So it’s very useful.
The terms and conditions actually don’t state an exclusion period, so technically, you should be eligible for the bonus so long as you do not hold the Qantas Premier Platinum Mastercard.
However, there have been reports that there is a non-stated exclusion period of 6 months, meaning that if you have held this card within this timeframe, you may not be eligible. To be safe, I would contact Qantas Money to determine your eligibility.
I believe so oliver. Definitely cancelling this card before then. $149 for 70k is good, but paying $299 for an additional 30k and quite lacklustre benefits is definitely not worth it in my opinion.
Thanks for your reply. I managed to find the chubb dedicated Q premier line (Q initiatelly gave me the wrong Chubb number – on the pds – so they should know it). personally I don’t consider hiking – walking on trails (am not doing everest) – a ‘special sport’. And why not list all the common sports that are excluded on the pds – the implication by not listing is that it is included? and there is no option to pay an additional premium.
The point of insurance is peace of mind – you hope that you don’t have to use it but you want to make sure it covers you for what you want to do. My point is, I don’t see this insurance as particularly useful compared to what you can get with other premium cards.
I got this card a few months back, got rid of my ANZ FF Black for this. Am about to travel so enquired about the comp insurance. First, $500 excess – ok, I guess you haven’t paid for it so maybe understandable. Second, had a query on whether hiking was covered so, after calling Qantas Concierge (and having to input my 16 digit card number to get through stage 1), they didn’t know anything and gave me the number for chubb 1800 236 023. There is no option for ‘comp insurance with Q’, only Amex, so press that. PDS medical excluded for special sports (hiking not listed) but rep says ‘you put in claim and we will tell you whether we accept’ and then follows with hiking would be excluded – ask her where this is written and she hangs up on me – accidentally? Seems like Qantas just tacked this on to the card for the sake of having some insurance. Qantas do seem to like to make it hard to get through so in some way am not surprised. why make life easy for your customers?! I’m not sure the Q points are worth having this card.
Sorry to hear that you have had a negative experience so far regarding this card’s insurance.
I would suggest trying to call Chubb back again as they would be handling any claims and therefore you would be going directly to the source. However, it is common for many insurances to exclude special sports such as hiking, but provide an option to charge an additional premium to get cover.

Hello,
If I currently have the Amex Platinum Charge card, am I still eligible for the 30k bonus Qantas points on top of the 70k points?
Thank you
I am wondering the same too! Did you ever get an answer? 🙂

Any experience on the bonus points landing in your account quicker than the 6-8week period started? Have met the criteria but yet to receive points.

Hi Tom, that’s right. No credit card on the market offers outright Qantas Platinum status (or any other status, for that matter). The ‘Platinum’ in this case refers to the tier of the credit card itself.
Does Qantas Money provide a pro rata refund on annual fees for this card should I close the card before it’s anniversary date?
Hi Tim Tam, you generally won’t get a pro-rata refund if you close your card early. But it doesn’t hurt to ask.
Actually, yes – Qantas does provide a pro-rata refund as confirmed by the page below from their support portal.
https://support.qantasmoney.com/change-my-product/what-will-happen-to-the-annual-fees-when-my-product-change-is-approved
“The annual fee on your current credit card will be prorated from the time of card approval and refunded back to that card. The fee for your new credit card will be applied, and prorated, based on your original card approval date.”

Spoke to supports at Qantas Money re. Apple Pay. I’ve been advised that Apple Pay will be available on this card from next week onward.
HI i have a question regarding
You will be ineligible to take up this offer if you currently hold, or have held a Qantas Premier Mastercard in the previous 12 months.
I have had a citibank credit card in the last 12 month and if this card is issued by citibank do i still qualify for the bonus QF points thank
A few things to note with this card. Since it’s not tied to a bank I’ve found I can’t:

If I have NAB Qantas, am I eligible for this?
Hi Ron, an NAB Qantas credit card won’t stop you from getting bonus points on the Qantas Premier Platinum Mastercard.
i applied for this and i have almost met the spend. i rang them to query the 299 fee because it was supposed to be 199.
they said nope i have to pay 299 and im not eligible for the 75 credits either.
they wouldn’t budge so i’ve made a complaint to AFCA
Hi,
Will the 75 bonus status credits carry over to my next membership year if I qualify for Point Club Plus?
Thanks,
Joe
Hi Joe
Ash
Hi Ashlea
Hi Trisha
Hi Natasha N
Thanks for your questions. I hope this helps.
Please take a look at the following page to determine the number of Qantas Points you can earn based on the different type of spend. https://www.qantasmoney.com/credit-cards/premier-platinum#earning-qantas-points.
Does this credit card support google pay, Samsung pay and apple pay
Hi JG
It does not appear that any of the above three payment options are offered for this card. Please refer to the following:
https://www.apple.com/au/apple-pay/banks/au/en-au.html
https://support.google.com/pay/answer/7351634
https://www.samsung.com/au/apps/samsungpay/banking-partners/
Hi Xuan Hai Bui
Or both.
Don’t expect to get this card quickly,
What are the overseas transaction fees?
Hi Louise
The overseas transaction fee amount is 3% of the transaction amount.
Hi John
Hi Chrissy
Both you and your husband can separately apply for this card, and if you are approved, you will be eligible for double the bonus points as long as you both meet the minimum spend criteria.
In regards to insurance cover for pre-existing conditions, we recommend calling Qantas Money directly about this and make sure to get any confirmation of cover from them in writing.
Hi guys,
I just rang Citibank to check if I was eligible but not sure if they told me the correct information as she was a bit vague. They advised that this $120k QF pts promotion is for “new to bank” customers only.
I closed a Premier Qantas card last November, but currently have a Citi rewards card.
I’m happy to apply via your link if you can confirm if I would be eligible.
Thanks!
Hi Karen Torstensson
Hi Rachel
Thanks, Nik
That’s correct—you are eligible.
Are mortgage payments considered eligible spend?
Great everyday card for points, been using it for the past 18 months.
One minor annoyance about its complimentary insurance – despite it having “global hire car excess waiver cover”, the fine print reads “You must take up all comprehensive motor insurance offered by the Car Rental Company, whether discretionary or mandatory” – which essentially renders this excess waiver cover useless.
Basically all car rental companies include comprehensive motor insurance in the package, but it often comes with a huge excess. The global hire car excess waiver cover from Qantas waives the huge excess (or big part of it). So it’s very useful.
Does paying for insurance count as eligible spending for the bonus points?
Hi James
American Express does count insurance payments as eligible spend.
Is the Qantas Premier Platinum Mastercard under AMEX too?
Have you managed to figure out whether you receive the lounge passes after 12 months or upon initially being approved?
Hi Stephen
You can request your Qantas Club passes at anytime during your card year. They are then valid for 12 months from the date of request.
For St George credit card it is, but not with Qantas ones. Qantas will issue the passes in a week or two after the card is approved.
Hello team , if I had a card with qantas within the last 1 year will the 80k bonus still apply (closed it)
Hi Justin
The terms and conditions actually don’t state an exclusion period, so technically, you should be eligible for the bonus so long as you do not hold the Qantas Premier Platinum Mastercard.
However, there have been reports that there is a non-stated exclusion period of 6 months, meaning that if you have held this card within this timeframe, you may not be eligible. To be safe, I would contact Qantas Money to determine your eligibility.
I believe so oliver. Definitely cancelling this card before then. $149 for 70k is good, but paying $299 for an additional 30k and quite lacklustre benefits is definitely not worth it in my opinion.
hi Daniel,
Thanks for your reply.
Hi Anne
Sorry to hear that you have had a negative experience so far regarding this card’s insurance.
I would suggest trying to call Chubb back again as they would be handling any claims and therefore you would be going directly to the source. However, it is common for many insurances to exclude special sports such as hiking, but provide an option to charge an additional premium to get cover.
“on the anniversary of the card” does this mean in 12 months time when the next annual fee is due?
