Summing Up
The St.George Amplify Qantas Platinum could still be useful for those who are looking for a non-Amex card with decent Qantas Points earn, without a particularly expensive card fee.
Bonus offers can be hit and miss on the Amplify range, but when they are on offer, these cards are worth considering. Those looking for more features like lounge access and other travel perks however might find the Amplify Signature more appealing.

I can’t see how this is worth it!?
You pay $99 per year + 1% for transferring money to the credit card account + 3% for overseas purchases + 1.5% above the market exchange rate on foreign currency OS purchases.
Example: Flying to Dubai is 41,900 points.
At 0.5 of a point per $1 spent, this = $84,000 spent to earn the required points
The bank charges a 1% transfer fee = $840
Plus it would take me at least 2 years to spend this much on my card = $198 in annual fees.
If say 50% of those purchases were overseas ones in a foreign currency then I’ll pay another $1,260 in fees for OS transactions
Then I will have paid around 1.5% above the actual foreign exchange rate because the bank uses their own exchange rate = $630
So, my “free” flight to Dubai using points has actually cost me $840+ $198 + $1,260 + $630 = a grand TOTAL of $2,928
Even if all my purchases were in Australian dollars, I’d still be paying $840 + $198 = $1,038 for my “FREE” flight.
Hi Dayrl, I advise you contact St.George to be completely sure. Having said that, here are the T&Cs directly from St.George’s application page:
Existing customers who currently hold an Amplify, Amplify Platinum or Amplify Signature card issued by St.George, Bank of Melbourne or BankSA, or who have held one in the last 12 months, are not eligible for this offer.

How is this worth doing????
Does having a Westpac card affect eligibility for this one?
They have an identical deal and I would like both if possible.

This is better than the shitty deal with 80k points where you have to spend 6k on their other card.
