Frequently Asked Questions

Will holding another ANZ credit card will make me ineligible for the bonus points?

This depends on the type of ANZ credit card that you hold. ANZ credit cards can be split into two categories.
The first is the Frequent Flyer category that is linked to Qantas Frequent Flyer, and consist of the following cards:
• ANZ Frequent Flyer Black
• ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum

The second is the Rewards category, consisting of the following cards:
• ANZ Rewards Black
• ANZ Rewards Platinum

Offer not available to customers who hold or have held an ANZ Frequent Flyer or ANZ Rewards credit card in the last 24 months.

If I previously held an ANZ Frequent Flyer card, can I still earn bonus points?

If you hold or have held an ANZ Frequent Flyer or ANZ Rewards credit card in the last 24 months you will not be eligible for the bonus points.

I was a supplementary holder of an ANZ Frequent Flyer Card which expired in July this year. Will I receive the bonus points on this product if I had an ANZ card but was not the primary holder?

Yes, you will. Being a supplementary cardholder on someone else’s card does not affect your eligibility to receive bonus points if you apply for a card as the primary cardholder.

What happens if I have been awarded bonus Qantas Points by signing up to an offer with another bank? Would that exclude me from this offer? I got the Qantas American Express Ultimate about 18 months ago and received bonus points.

The good news is that you are eligible for the bonus points offer with ANZ—earning bonus points from other banks does not affect your eligibility.

How do I check my Qantas Frequent Flyer Points?

To check your Qantas Points, sign in to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account via the membership portal.

What are ANZ eligible purchases?

Certain transactions and other items are not eligible to earn Qantas Points, for details refer to the ANZ Frequent Flyer Reward Term and Conditions booklet.

  1. Does anyone know if ANZ offer an instant digital card upon approval whilst you’re waiting for the physical one to be posted/collected?
I have a purchase I need to make in the next few days and I’m hoping I’ll be given a Digital card?

  2. I signed up to this card in September 2023 and have been using it well so far. I just realised I haven’t received my 2x lounge invitations and I am unsure how to claim them. Does anyone have any insight as to who to contact or how to claim the lounge invitations? Thanks.

  3. QQ on the Qantas club lounge access – if I have a partner and 2 kids (both 2 years old) can they come with me or are these passes not usable by families of 4?

    1. Hi Olly, with the single visit Qantas Club passes, it’s one pass needed per person, including children.

  4. Hi there guys,

What can I do if the bonus points and min spend changes after I have applied and been approved with a card?

eg. I applied for a card with ANZ at 130,000 bonus points and $3k minimum spend which has now changed to 110,000 and $5k minimum spend. Will I need to meet the new min spend?

    Thankyou!
    Steph

    1. Hi Steph, the offer you applied under will be the one that your card will be bound to. So no need to worry about new offer terms as long as you already applied.

    1. Direct spend with the ATO earns 0 points, so it won’t count. You can consider a third-party payment processor such as Pay.com.au, where it earns full points and should count.

      1. Thanks for answering.

        Your article states:

Eligible purchases cover most transactions, with the normal exclusions of fees, cash, cash equivalent transactions, balance transfers and transactions for gambling or gaming.

Perhaps you should clarify that ATO spend is excluded.

  5. Did they card change from 120,000 points to 100k and 30k more when you keep it open? Just got the card this week and I feel like I read different conditions earlier this week.

      1. It is disappointing that pointhacks do not add the date of the promotion start and end to the page, creating a record of all the points promotions offered by the banks with a timeline.

    1. Yep I think it changed today. I also applied this week and it was 120k.
Worth keeping a screenshot or PDF of the offer when you apply, just in case.

      1. Yeah hopefully they honour the conditions from when we were approved. I was approved and using the card maybe a matter of days before this change. The old offer of 120k points was far better than 90 + keeping it open and another annual fee.

    1. Hi Josh, no, you don’t have to be a Qantas Club member in order to use the complimentary lounge passes that come with this card.

  6. You state that “So long as you have not qualified for bonus Qantas Points or a credit back on your previous ANZ Frequent Flyer card within the previous 12 months from the date of closing the account, then you will be eligible for the bonus points.”

I have not had any bonus points for over twelve months and my card has been closed for over twelve months BUT I have received some refunds from cancelled travel to my closed card and ANZ has transferred that back to me. Is that what you refer to as a “credit back” and as a result will that make me ineligible for the sign up bonus.

    1. Not sure how to leave a separate comment, but it would have been good for Pointhacks to note the cost of additional cardholders as ANZ seem to be the worst! $65 per additional card holder ($10 card fee and $55 for rewards usage) compared to the other banks who don’t charge for additional carholders, this is very unappealing.

  7. Is there a requirement regarding how long I need to keep the account open for after receiving the 120k Qantas points and $200 cashback?

    1. Hi Alex, once you’ve got the 120k points and the cashback safely on your statement, you can close the account at any point and not lose those rewards.

  8. I’ve just gone to the ANZ black Credit card application site via the link and it doesn’t mention Qantas club passes or discount Qantas club membership per your analysis of the card on this page. Am i missing something? With thanks!

      1. And? You’re still advertising 2 x qantas club passes and theres nothing about that on the ANZ card page.

      2. Hi Sam, rest assured that the card will come with the two Qantas Club passes as advertised. It’s an inherent benefit of the card (as you’ll see on the card’s page elsewhere on ANZ’s site) and ANZ did not create a special version of the card without the passes for us. It’s an omission on ANZ’s landing page and we are in contact with them to fix it up, though this may still take a few days. In the meantime, feel free to apply and also take a screenshot of our Point Hacks page showing the lounge passes. Thanks.

    1. Bigger issue with the lounge passes – you need to call to arrange them to be credited… and you need to do this 3-5 business days in advance of a flight. It’s the most inconvenient thing I’ve ever seen for a complimentary lounge pass. I won’t be renewing.

    1. Hi Andrew, if you follow our link on that page to the ANZ FF Black application page, you should be able to see the current offer of $150 back and 100,000 + 30,000 Qantas Points.

  9. Your description of card bonuses is not correct, or has changed. The 75 status credits are currently not awarded until after the card is renewed 12 months after receiving it. Your description says the status points are received after 3 months.

    1. Hi Andrew,

We have confirmed with ANZ that the 75 bonus Status Credits will be received after meeting the minimum spend requirement within the first 3 months of approval, and not after 12 months. Please click through our link above and check the Terms & Conditions (#1) at the bottom of the card’s landing page for more details on the Status Credits offer. Thanks!

      1. I was just about to come post the same thing since their official site says “Plus get 75 bonus Status Credits and an additional 30,000 bonus Qantas Points when you keep your card for over 12 months.”

Can you please triple check this?

      2. Hi Oliver, it’s all in the fine print. On ANZ’s website, see note 1 under ‘Important Information’. Word for word, it says:

The bonus Status Credits are only available to Qantas Frequent Flyer members who apply for an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card account, are approved and make $3,000 of eligible purchases within three months of approval.

    2. @Brandon Loo
yes it says that in the fine print.
It says if you meed the spend criteria in the first 3 months you are eligible for the status credits. Then in the other section it says the status credits will be awarded after 12 months. So both parts are true:
meet spend in first three months… wait 12 months… get status credits.

Confusing and misleading on ANZs part. Lots of other similar point sites have fallen into the same mistake. I’m going to call ANZ and get an answer in writing

      1. I can see how you might be getting conflicting messages between the big offer text and the small print. The big offer text is confusing (mentioning the Status Credits with the 12-month points offer), and could be written clearer by the bank.

The fine print is usually checked by the legal team and should be considered more accurate. We’ve also confirmed the 3 months rule internally with ANZ on our end.

However, I hope you’re able to get the confirmation you need in writing from ANZ – best of luck!

  10. I can’t seem to find any term alluding to the length of cc ownership other than, stay until you get the points and credit. Therefore, is it safe to assume that once this has occurred ( I’m assuming months 4-5 ish) the card can be cancelled before another annual fee is incurred?

    1. Hi Trisha

There is no minimum requirement to hold a credit card, and you can cancel whenever you wish. Just make sure that your bonus points are credited to you before you cancel your card. And yes, once they hit your account they are safe and cannot be reversed.

  11. Hey Daniel – I see the article was written 13th Dec. I have the card and min spend met. ANZ are unwilling to give me 120,000 qantas points and only give me 100,000 qantas points and $200 cash back instead of $275 cash back as they said they offer wasn’t valid when I applied, which I think it was. How long has this offer been valid for?
    Thanks

  12. What’s your pick right now for the best points card offer, i need one in the next few days, easily meeting the minimum spend in first 3 months, will be alot of international transactions though so could be some fees there.

    1. Hi Mike

Due to regulatory restrictions, we are unable to recommend any specific offer to our readers as being the best pick for them, however, I can highlight you to our Credit Card and Offers page, that lists the top offers in the market at the moment based on which program you are looking to accrue your points in.

  13. The article currently states “Fly in Qantas’ A330 Business Class from the East Coast to Japan for only 60,000 Qantas Points one-way” – however the points table from Sydney for example states 90k points. How do you do it for 60k points or is this out-dated information?

    1. Hi Greg

Thanks for pointing this to our attention.

A one-way Business flight on Qantas is now 82,000 Qantas points and have amended the commentary. I have also arranged for an internal review of the points tables, as some of the figures do not look correct either.

Apologies for the error and we will look to rectify as soon as possible.

  14. Hi, is this offer currently still valid? I just clicked on the find out more and apply button, and it redirected me back to this page. I can’t seem to find anywhere to fill out the application?

    1. Hi Christine

Sorry to hear you are having some issues bringing up the offer. It definitely is still current, and when you click on ‘Find out more & Apply’, it should be redirecting to you to the ANZ site where the offer is. I have just tested it on my end using an Apple MacBook Air and Chrome and it has worked.

Can I just confirm that you don’t have any AdBlockers in place as this may prevent the offer from opening.

If not, could you also please try clicking on our link from a different browser. If the problem still persists, please let us know.

Hope you have a Happy New Year!

    1. Hi Ross

ANZ generally do not give an exact end date for their offers. In this case, the terms and conditions state “This is a limited time only offer which may be withdrawn or changed at any time without notice.”.

  15. Hi all,

Think the numbers in this sentence refer to an older version of the offer so need updating: “A minimum spend of $4,000 within the first three months of approval is required to receive the 120,000 bonus Qantas Points and the $150 credit, which helps to offset the hefty $425 annual fee.”

    Thanks
    Caroline

  16. Hi Guys!

Just wondering about the ‘eligible’ spending of $7,500 for the first 3 months…and what this actually covers..my understanding is anything related to paying government charges (council rates, council bills, ATO , SRO etc ) are not eligible.

I’m currently building my house at the moment, can i pay the engineer’s invoice ( they accept credit cards) and this can be part of that $7,500 min. spent for the 3 months?

    Thanks!

    Jim

  17. Hi Guys!!,
    i got a question:
i applied for the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black on 30th March 2019..which has the offer of 120,000 points and requires a min. spend of $7,500 for the first 3 months etc…however my card was only approved on 2 April 2019 ( i have not activated the card yet!!) That offer of 120,000 points ends 31 March 2019.

Does that mean i did not get that particular offer and i’m now automatically rolled into this offer- 100,000 Qantas Points for new cardholders of the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Visa. Includes $200 back to your card, two Qantas Club lounge passes and complimentary insurances…min spend $4,000 for the first 3 months?

    thanks!

    Jim

    1. Hi jimmy

Your eligibility for an offer is based on the date of application, not on the date of processing.

  18. Hi Matt,
    i got a question:

  19. Does anyone know when Bonus 120k points and $150 are credited? I cant get a straight answer out of ANZ. They have said a couple of different dates to me..My timeline is as follows:

I applied for card in December 2018.
    Activated card in Jan 2018.
First statement period was 19th Jan.
Met the $7500 minimum spend criteria 13th February.
Second statement period ended 19th February. I assumed bonus points would be credited at this time, but when they didn’t come through I rang up ANZ and they said points would “definitely come through on third statement period 19th March.”
Points did not come through on third statement period.
ANZ are now saying that they will come through on fourth statement period….I don’t know if I really trust them at this stage. Has anyone else had a similar experience with this? Can anyone provide clarity when they had their points credited?

    Thanks in advance,

    1. Hi Andrew

After the minimum spend is made, bonus points generally take anywhere between 4 to 12 weeks to credit to your frequent flyer account, varying by each provider. If you haven’t received them in this time frame, please send your details to [email protected] so we can investigate further with ANZ.

    1. Hi Jessica

The $150 will be credited to your credit card account within three months of the eligible spend criteria being met.

    1. I was looking on the ANZ page and couldn’t see anything about the discounted Qantas club membership or the waiving of the sign up fee. Are these both still a part of the offer?

      1. Hi Joel

The ANZ page does include the following:

Two Qantas Club lounge access passes per year and discounted first-year Qantas Club membership

Look at clauses 3 and 4 in the ‘Important Information’ section at the bottom of the page.

  20. Hi guys,
I was just wondering if anyone knew when the bonus points would be allocated? I got this card in the last couple weeks and have been putting big expenses on it. I am already at $4500 of the $7500 spend. I was wondering if I hit the $7500 in the next week say do I automatically get the points or do I need to have the card for the entire 3 months? I am asking because my investment property loan expired so I need to do a full application again and this CC is at $15k could push me over the edge but I really want the points 🙂 So any experience in getting the bonus points prior to the 3 months?

    Cheers WD

    1. Hi Justin

Yes, you must be an Australian resident and be able to show Australian generated income, such as a payslip or an ATO Notice of Assessment if you are self-employed.

  21. Hi Folks.

For the 75 status credits, does the cardholder have to take the flights that are booked with the card?

e.g., if I book 2 return trips to Melbourne from Sydney for my wife that she travels on (and I do not travel) do I get the status credits?

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Marcus

Yes. The Qantas Frequent Flyer number attached to your ANZ card account must be that of the Primary card holder, and you must ensure that the name on the card and the frequent flyer accounts exactly match. This requirement means that you must also be the one traveling in order to get the bonus status credits.

  22. I signed up in Nov 18 and have satisfied min spend. I want to fast track receiving the points. ANZ are saying it will take 2 statement periods after satisfying the min spend (because they don’t want people signing up, getting points and cancelling). Any tips?

  23. Anyone else have a high income that is mostly not taxable in Australia, therefore a low income on their ATO return? Any tips on convincing the banks to review proof of income other than tax returns?

  24. Hi all

Just wondering what eligible Qantas flights are? (To get your status credit) Couldn’t see it in here
    Cheers

    1. Hi Jamie

To earn 75 Bonus Status Credits, you must apply for an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card by 31st March 2019, be approved, and then using your ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card, book and travel on 2 new domestic or international Qantas operated flights with a Qantas (QF) flight number (1 return flight or 2 one-way flights) between 12.01am (AEDT) 17th October 2018 and 11.59pm (AEST) 30 June 2019. Excludes Classic Flight Rewards, partner or codeshare flights.

  25. Hi, I’m about to apply.
Do you mind if I ask what credit score & income did you have?
Also, did ANZ request anything from you? PaySlips? Bank Statements?

  26. I’ve had this card since 2015 and called Qantas today to join Qantas Club at the discounted price, however was told that my card – which is the FF black, same as what you have described and with same T&C in 2015 as now – wasn’t eligible. Qantas asked for the card number and came back with the reply ‘this card is not eligible’ and when I asked for clarification, told me to contact ANZ. After spending a good 10 minutes trying to get through, the rep said she didn’t know why and would have to escalate and they would get back to me. any idea why this happened? Anyone had same issue? I’m really cheesed off and will be following up tomorrow and going to ombudsman. I can’t think of a reason why not except that I had club membership over 10 years ago but if I signed up now I would be considered new member by Q and have to pay the rejoining fee – so am effective a new member.

  27. My anniversary with FF is 31/3 so getting status credits before that seems pointless as I won’t make a bonus tier, but this offer expires 31/3. Do the status credits apply from date of application or some arbitrary later date when Qantas processes the application. (In the past I’ve missed gold as Qantas advised that points earned just before my anniversary accrued the following month…)

    1. Here is what the terms and conditions say:

To earn 75 Bonus Status Credits, you must apply for an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card by 31st March 2019, be approved, and then using your ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card, book and travel on 2 new domestic or international Qantas operated flights with a Qantas (QF) flight number (1 return flight or 2 one-way flights) between 12.01am (AEDT) 17th October 2018 and 11.59pm (AEST) 30 June 2019. Excludes Classic Flight Rewards, partner or codeshare flights. Your Qantas Frequent Flyer membership number must be recorded at the time of booking. If you change or cancel your flight and/or travel outside the specified dates, this Bonus Status Credits offer will not apply. Bonus Status Credits could take up to 10 weeks after travel to be credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account.

    2. I have the same question – we know that the bonus status credits can take up to 10 weeks to be credited, but to what time frame are they applied and take effect, eg. is it the booking date, the date of first travel, the date of last travel, or is it whatever date up to 10 weeks after you qualify ? I’m trying to time the credit so that it’s in my next membership year, so this information would be useful, if known. Thanks.

      1. Hi Markus Vollstecker

As you will need to book and travel in order to qualify for the 75 status credits, the time frame would be from the date of last travel.

  28. What happens if I have been awarded Qantas bonus point by signing with another bank? Would that exclude me from this offer? I got the AMEX qantas card about 18 months ago, received 100,000 bonus point.

  29. The bonus points offer is very tempting, as VISA card can be used almost everywhere. Plus, the $7500 cap each month is much better than the $2000 one for the travel adventure card. Anyone holding an ANZ travel adventure card has successful experience in getting the bonus points after applying for this one?

  30. How many Qantas points would the annual fee of $425 equate to? I guess this question is asking the dollar value of 120,000 QFF points.

  31. Just reading the terms and conditions on the link. It says “Not available where you currently hold an ANZ Frequent Flyer, ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum or ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card, or have closed, or qualified for bonus Qantas Points or a credit back on, any of those ANZ Frequent Flyer credit cards within the previous 12 months.” But doesn’t mention the ANZ travel rewards adventures card. They appear to be in the rewards card catogory as opposed to the frequent flyer card catogory? So I was hoping holding that card would not restrict you earning the bonus points on this one?

    1. I see in comments below that ANZ travel adventure card holders might be eligible for this. But I’m not sure.

  32. I was a supplementary holder of an ANZ Frequent Flyer Card which expired in July this year. Will I receive the bonus points on this product if I had an ANZ card but was not the primary holder?

    1. Yes, you will. Being a supplementary cardholder on someone else’s card does not affect your eligibility to receive bonus points if you apply for a card as the primary cardholder.

    1. The information in this response is incorrect. Please see rest of comment thread for correct information.

As stated in the card summary at the top of the guide:

Not available where you currently hold, or have closed, an ANZ Frequent Flyer credit card within the previous 12 months

So, in your case, you would be ineligible to receive the points. I would recommend checking out our noteworthy credit card offers to pick up some bonus points.

      1. I’m not sure I agree with you Matt. The wording on the ANZ site is “Not available where you currently hold an ANZ Frequent Flyer, ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum or ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card, or have closed, or qualified for bonus Qantas Points or a credit back on, any of those ANZ Frequent Flyer credit cards within the previous 12 months.”

      2. Isn’t the Travel Adventures card an ANZ Rewards card, not Frequent Flyer, so you would be eligible for the bonus here? That’s how I read it, but happy to be corrected!

      3. Sorry guys, I got that wrong—as Simon copied from the terms and conditions:

Not available where you currently hold an ANZ Frequent Flyer, ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum or ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card, or have closed, or qualified for bonus Qantas Points or a credit back on, any of those ANZ Frequent Flyer credit cards within the previous 12 months.

The ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures card is not an ANZ Frequent Flyer card, so does not affect eligibility for this card.

        Apologies for the confusion!

  33. Hi guys. For the 75 status credits.. the 2 x eligible flights requirement, do you have to book the flights with the card or is it just ‘taking the flights’? Thank you

    1. Yes, you need to book the flights with the card:

To earn 75 Bonus Status Credits, you must apply for an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card by 31st March 2019, be approved, and then using your ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card, book and travel on 2 new domestic or international Qantas operated flights with a Qantas (QF) flight number (1 return flight or 2 one-way flights) between 12.01am (AEDT) 17th October 2018 and 11.59pm (AEST) 30 June 2019. Excludes Classic Flight Rewards, partner or codeshare flights.

  34. I just applied for my anz ff black card last Wednesday, approved by last Friday and activated it yesterday. Wish I had known about this offer!
