Qantas Frequent Flyer is running another 10-20% bonus on transfers from credit cards that allow manual transfers to Qantas Points. But now, you can also earn bonus Status Credits with transfers too!
Note: this offer excludes most cards except American Express Membership Rewards Ascent Premium and Business Ascent, ANZ Business Rewards and Westpac Altitude Business cards.
That’s because the vast majority of Qantas Frequent Flyer co-branded cards are direct earn. This means points are swept to your account every month. Transfer bonuses don’t apply to direct earn cards.
The current 10-20% bonus is average – previously, it was 15-25%. Either way, it’s probably not worth speculatively transferring your points over. If you do have a specific redemption in mind, including international travel in 2022, this will save you some points.
These bonuses help to offset some of Qantas’ higher points redemption pricing compared to its competitors like Asia Miles. It’s also good for transferring over if you have one of the best uses of Qantas Points in mind. We’re fans of Emirates First Class in particular!

The current bonus offer
- 10% bonus on transfers of up to 299,999 points
- 20% bonus on transfers of 300,000+ points
- 1 Status Credit for every 5,000 Qantas Points transferred (up to 200 SCs)
To reach the maximum 200 bonus Status Credits with this offer, you would need to transfer over at least 1 million Qantas Points (earning an extra 200,000 Qantas Points in the process).
Bonus Status Credits will not contribute towards any Loyalty Bonuses, or any Platinum or Platinum One Bonus Rewards. However, it will count to your current and lifetime Status Credits levels.

The offer runs until 30 September 2021. You can view the offer through this link, though it mentions you should also be targeted with an email as well.
Bonus points may take up to 15 days after the promotion ends to credit to your account, so keep that in mind if you have a specific flight booking with points that you want to make.
Am I eligible to take part in this promotion?
The transfer bonus offer is usually targeted to members who have previously made a transfer. While Qantas has published the deal online, you should also check your email and physical mail to see if you’ve received specific communication about it.
Emails (or snail mail) are usually sent to everyone who is eligible, and members that receive them are usually those who have made a transfer to Qantas Points from their credit card in the past.
If you are a member of an eligible card/bank rewards program, it might be worth making a small transfer to Qantas outside of a bonus period so you have a greater chance of being included in the next promotion. No guarantees, but it is worth a shot.

Summing up: should you take advantage of the transfer bonus?
Each time this comes around it seems to be on a short-term basis, and with little predictability. Either way, it is useful for those who have points balances they can transfer to Qantas but with the limited cards that offer it, that is not going to be too many of us.
The deal is helpful if you have a premium card like the American Express Platinum Charge, and you know you will want to use your point balance for Qantas Frequent Flyer redemptions or upgrades. It might also be good if you want to top-up your Status Credits balance.
However, there are better-value redemptions available from other programs like KrisFlyer and Asia Miles if you are willing to go looking.
Will you transfer Qantas Points over for the bonus Status Credits?
This article was previously written by Matt Moffitt.
I received an offer yesterday entitled “It’s time to transfer for 25% more Qantas Points”. It’s a flat rate with no minimum. Available until 30 June.
I spoke to Westpac Altitude rewards about my Business Platinum Mastercard last night to confirm that this bonus (March 2020) was valid. They had no idea of the promotion and no idea if I would receive the bonus!!! They pushed me to card services, then to Qantas and none of them knew about the promo nor whether I would get the bonus. So typical of the banks’ service these days. I suspect that Westpac customers will miss out so be warned.
Sounds like you were given the run-around, which is frustrating. However, I’m not surprised that Westpac nor Qantas had info on this offer. These are not public offers—they’re targeted to individual members. Be sure to read under the These transfer bonus promotions are targeted subheading for more information.
“However, if you have been targeted by Amex for the doubling of your points balance to retain you as a customer, then you may want to skip this offer and hold onto your points.”
Is there an article / thread on this Matt?
Cheers,
Jeremy
Can someone please weigh in??
Has anyone received an email from Qantas confirming their eligibility for the promo? I don’t know anyone that has. In addition, the link that Matt posted – https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/member-specials/transfer-your-rewards-points.html is no longer active and can’t be accessed from the main page.
Please clarify. Thanks
Hey guys,
I’ve been taking advantage of the previous Qantas promos concerning transferring bank points to qantas. As Matt pointed out, the terms and conditions clearly state its targeted to members that have received an email to that effect. I’ve received emails for the previous promotions but oddly enough haven’t received an email for this promo. If anyone has any input I’d appreciate it greatly.
Does anyone have a sense of how quickly QANTAS picks up on including people in promotions like this if they’re recently made make an AMEX to QANTAS transfer? About 1 month ago, I transferred 2000 points from AMEX to QANTAS (I didn’t get any bonus, so assumed I was outside a bonus period), but I haven’t received an offer as part of the current promotion.
Should I a) make a 2000 point promotion during this bonus period and see if I get the bonus; b) wait until this promotion period is over and try transfering 2000 points again or c) do both a) and b)!
How do you know if you qualify for the promo?
Do AMEX notify you or Qantas?
And how, via email or snail mail?
I’ve transferred to Qantas before but I haven’t received anything regarding his yet for my Plat Charge.
Cheers
Qantas notifies you. You may or may not be eligible for the transfer bonus if you have not received communication, so my advice would be to maybe make a small transfer this time and see if the bonus posts, then that can give you a stronger indication for next time.
Hi,
I have just received an offer for 20% Bonus an [all] points transfers to QFF made before 31 August 2018, by snail mail.
I already have a little over 350,000 Frequent Flyer points and I have just over 200,000 Westpac Altitude points (120,000 Qantas equivalent inc. bonus) available to transfer.
My question is this.. in your opinion should I take the transfer bonus, or would the Altitude points offer better value for travel with other airlines?
These are the current redemtion rates:
199,800 Altitude Points* = 1,110 Air New Zealand Airpoints
200,000 Altitude Points* = 80,000 Asia Miles
200,000 Altitude Points* = 80,000 Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Miles
200,000 Altitude Points* = 100,000 Malaysia Airlines Enrich points
200,000 Altitude Points* = 100,000 Qantas Frequent Flyer Points
200,000 Altitude Points* = 100,000 Velocity Points
I will most likely be using the points for Business class travel to Europe (2pax)
TIA for your opinions.
Cheers
Sam
I would suggest posting this in our Questions section to get more responses.
Centurion cars can also transfer points to Qantas Keith!
Of course! Have added that in.
I do this type of on demand points transfer to Qantas using my Amex Corporate card, and had the offer this week for the 15% etc bonus.
I’ve just read this article and attempted to utilise the current September 2017 15% bonus offer. I’ve transferred 2000 points from AMEX membership rewards to frequent flyer, but when I enquired about this promotion to a Qantas representative, they denied this promotion and that this does not exist? Any thoughts or would I have to wait for a physical email/letter to drop in my inbox?
It does exist as we have received an email about it but the email does say: “We are sending you this offer as you have transferred reward points earned on a credit or charge card to Qantas Points in the past.” Have you transferred points previously?
I have received an email and letter…
Hi Tony, I assume this is the first time you’ve transferred? You need to transfer points without a bonus first. The small about of 2,000 is a good start. After that, you will receive the offers from Qantas directly and will become eligible for the bonus offers.
Is there a definitive way of knowing (besides the email/letter) whether you are included in the offer or not? If you are included, is there any restriction of the number of transfers that you can make during the offer period?
I may have inadvertently deleted some emails and prefer to transfer the minimum of 2000 points (in the first instance) to test whether I receive the bonus, before transferring more. Thank you.
Just received an offer of 25% bonus up to 1,249,000 Qantas points transferred and 40% for 1,250,000 or more. Valid 23/05/2017 – 30/06/2017.
Amazing offer! i got that too! A few offers before this one also offered the 40% bonus! i took part in it and got a HUGE bonus! AMAZING!
You can transfer with Diners Club to Qantas and a fair few other programs, if you’re unfortunate enough to use Diners Club.
Stand-alone, the Reserve card only yields Membership Rewards Ascent points: Qantas isn’t a transfer-option and they transfer 4:3 for Emirates. You do still earn points at the same rate as the Platinum Charge (3/dining, 2/travel, 1/most everything else).
When I had the Platinum Charge card, I was earning Membership Rewards Ascent Premium points, which can be transferred to Qantas and I believe they transfer 1:1 to Emirates.
Ahh ok! So 4 Ascent points for 3 Emirates points? is that what you mean?
FWIW I just got the 15/25/30% offer in the form of a physical letter.
Unfortunately I closed my Platinum Charge card late last year. I still have the Platinum Reserve card, which I thought was still accruing Ascent Premium points, but this doesn’t seem to be the case any more.
The double bummer is that for most of the time I held the Platinum Charge card, I was unable to transfer points to Qantas because “something was broken” in Amex’s registration of my Qantas account. Eventually I got it fixed over the phone and transferred a few points shortly before I closed the card.
Sorry to hear that matey! The charge card is good value though…. Does the Reserve Card not give you points? I am pretty sure it does as I have one, however it’s linked to my Charge Card….
Hi Keith, would you suggest me making a transfer outside the promotion period as well as during the promotion period in hope that i get a 40% bonus transfer offer? or just one of these?
or does anyone else know?
I had transfered some ANZ business rewards in November hoping to get this deal when they issued it again. Unfortunately I didn.t get the email or letter. I phoned QFF today, but they pleaded ignorance on the offer and directed me to the card company. Has one had any luck getting the offer extended to them by phoning QFF?
Anyone else feel this is a bit of a slap in the face for people (myself included) who waited until the November promotion to transfer points, only to then find a mere 8 days after the promotion ends Qantas offer a 30-40% bonus across the board?
Absolutely. I can’t see their logic in the timing of this to be honest. They and Velocity always run their promos around the same time, and this one is not reactionary – there’s no other bonus running. Both must have been planned, and there is little sense to it – if anything do the bigger bonus first and then a smaller bonus for those who missed out. Or not bother with the second promotion at all.
Thing is Keith, it’s not the first time I’ve seen Qantas pull something like this with one of their promos. Couple of years back I can remember booking a round trip itinerary from Perth to Europe as part of a ‘Europe on Sale’ promo (or something along those lines). Three days after the advertised end date the same return itinerary was just shy of $200 cheaper. I do love their service and the benefits of the Emirates / One World partnership but feeling as though you’re playing a rigged game of cat and mouse with the marketing department is a less than optimal experience as a customer. First world problems when taken in the wider perspective of course but still, really think they need to up their standards of conduct on the promo front. On a positive note thanks for the time you take to share info here mate it’s a great resource!
I got 40% too with my Amex Centurion, they sometimes give better deals eg the recent 15% bonus to Virgin Australia was doubled to 30% for Centurion cards
Hi Matt! I have a Centurion as well… do you have any idea what you may have done to have received the 40% offer? Thank you in advance…
Hi
I don’t think it was a special offer for me personally just for Centurion cardholders. They just send emails to me with the offers. I’d transferred lots of points before to Qantas but other than that I can’t think of any reason I would be selected for an extra bonus
Ahh ok thanks for replying Matt. When did they send you the offer? I never got the offer and I have the same card as yourself. Was it sent by Amex? of by Qantas? Sorry for all the questions and thank you so much in advance for your help Matt! You are a champ!
It was sent by Qantas in the second week of December. What was actually really irritating about it was that it was about 2 weeks after a 25% bonus offer so I’d already transferred 500,000 points over so although it was a great offer I didn’t get as many bonus points as I could have. TBH availability in business class with Qantas is not as good as it used to be and their taxes & surcharges are sky high
Thank you very much for your advice Matt. Would be great if you could let us know of your next offer! i will do the same 🙂
Seem’s the offer is targetted based on % too. My bonus is 40%.
Ah, wow, even better!
Hi Dylan! Do you have any idea what you may have done to have received the 40% offer? Thank you in advance…
The 40% off seemed to be sent if you did a transfer on the previous 0ffer. I did a small transfer at 15%, but not everything as I just needed a few extra points. I’d saved about 250k in my amex account. When I got the 40% offer though it was a no brainer to transfer these across. It almost seemed like they sent this out knowing that not many people would take it up, as they would have already transferred all their points in the previous offer.
Oh mine was on centurion as well, so it might have been limited to that as I just noticed the comments above. Seems that they might have targeted centurion cards who had already transferred points in the previous offer.
Would this not also apply to the QF Corporate AMEX cards linked to the Spirit program as I believe you get a choice of transferring to QF or using for some AMEX gift cards?
Possibly! But only those with those cards who have transferred over and then were targeted by email would know for sure, Qantas never confirms which cards trigger the bonus when asked.
Anyone know if this applies to overseas credit cards which have the ability to transfer to qantas?
Generally not, unfortunately. Would love to be proven wrong though.
Works for NZ-issued Amex Platinum cards, not sure about other countries though.
Hi Keith, confirmed with Qantas Loyalty what you suspected. Invitation only targeted to people who have transferred points to Qantas previously. I’ve transferred some today, so let’s hope I get the e-mail next round. Thanks for the info.
The American Express Rewards Advantage Card is still in use with existing customers and lets you transfer to Qantas.
YOU CHOOSE HOW YOU’LL FLY
Transfer your points to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program or to the loyalty programs of eight other airline reward Partners. The Rewards Advantage Card comes with Membership Rewards Ascent Premium. It’s our premier program, designed with frequent travellers in mind.
I always struggle with a decision when getting these QF offers
You basically can book QF reward seats via Cathay Pacific/Asia Miles for about 15% less points anyway!
Qantas have very high points required for award flights, then their surcharges are sky high, their product is so dated, oh and their customer service is now so slow and shocking to top it off.
I agree with Juanita…SQ all the way!! SQ has award flights for far less points (more than 20% less), stacks of availability, lowers taxes/surcharges, an awesome product and they answer the phone after 2 rings.
I figure after offering a 15-20% bonus this puts QF possibly just on par with the other airlines. They are 15-20% more expensive/worse!
I’ve recently become points crazy after years ignorance. Great site by the way. I’ve been waiting for this offer to return. Missed out on the March one. Received no letter or email as yet though. Have I missed the boat again do you think?
The thing is I’ve only redeemed the minimum 3000 Attitude Business points to 1500 QFF so far. Thought it would get me on the list next time round. Should I redeem more to become noticed?
Interesting one. I was only on the list because of transfers from the old CitiBusiness Gold card from years ago, so I would bet that it’s any prior transfer might get you included. No way of knowing for sure though!
Hi Keith
Can you forward the link for the bonus credit? I realise it’s targeted, but can we try generic URL?
Thanks
I don’t have a link, sorry. Nothing on the letter that was sent. These offers don’t usually have a registration page (or much of an offer page online either).
CBA Platinum / regular rewards cards also have the option of “opting in”, or collecting a haul of Commonwealth points which can then be transferred to Qantas/Velocity points at a 2:1 ratio (2 bank points per airline point) on demand.
Thanks Amanda, I didn’t realise.
Any idea if the CBA card ever gets the bonus points deal outlined above? I remember Virgin offered it a couple of years ago, but have never seen a Qantas one. 500,000 CBA points I wouldnt mind getting over!
CBA to my knowledge don’t offer transfers to Qantas, all their cards need to be set up as ‘direct earn’ I think?
Correct, you can’t manually transfer to Qantas from CBA, you have to opt in to FF Direct. You can transfer to other programs like Velocity.
All American Express, not just the Platinum cards direct with American Express allow you to transfer your points to which ever Airline you please. Sounds tempting but you can’t beat Singapore Airlines for best value on redemption bookings.
The Platinum Charge is the only Amex card (outside of the Qantas Amex range) that allows transfers to Qantas. Agree on Singapore 100%!
