Altitude Qantas vs Altitude Rewards

The Altitude Card range offers a choice between earning Qantas Points through Qantas Frequent Flyer or Altitude Rewards Points through Westpac’s own loyalty program Altitude Rewards. The latter allows cardmembers to transfer their Altitude Rewards Points to a number of airline partners but doesn’t include Qantas.

In addition to the ongoing card fee, there is an annual $75 Qantas Rewards fee on the Westpac Altitude Platinum Qantas Mastercard.

When choosing the rewards program that is right for you, you’ll also need to factor in the different earn rates of each currency and transfer rates to partner programs. Our full guide to Altitude Rewards offers more detail about the program’s benefits.

The choice between Altitude Qantas or Altitude Rewards will depend on your personal points-earning preference.

Included insurances and other benefits

The Altitude Qantas Platinum Card comes with a range of insurances, including overseas travel insurance for trips up to 3 months in length, transit accident insurance and extended warranty insurance. You should check the descriptions for each policy if you plan to rely on them. Read the PDS for the Westpac Altitude Platinum here.

Summing up: the Westpac Altitude Platinum Card

The Westpac Altitude Qantas Platinum Card is a mid-range card that will suit those looking to earn Qantas Points. For those looking to have greater flexibility in which program their points are directed to, then you instead may wish to consider the Altitude Rewards option of this card.

The card has a competitive earn rate compared to similar cards in the market and has a relatively high annual cap on the number of points that can be earned, which is definitely a perk not seen on most competitor cards.

  1. Just as a data point. 70k points received on first statement date, exactly 1 month after approval. As expected, car rego did not receive any points. Spent the whole $4000 on the digital card before I even got the physical card. 70k more to Points Club Plus……awaiting the posting of NAB points 🙂

  2. Hello,
Would car registration and car insurance count towards the minimum spend on this card? If not, are there anyones that do?
    Thanks.

    1. Looks like the first year annual card fee is indeed back to $49 (+$50 Qantas FF fee p.a. of course).

These card offers seem to change slightly from year to year but I was just approved my second Westpac altitude platinum (24 months gap so the 70,000 pts still on offer).

Super easy to get approved for, all done online, and for me it took them three days and no phone calls exchanged.

  3. Does having a St George rewards card (with 60k bonus points) prevent me from getting this deal? Thanks in advance

    1. Hi Eliot, Westpac’s Altitude and St.George’s Amplify Rewards are separate programs and shouldn’t be excluded.
