Qantas to axe Points Club and Green Tier

The changes will happen later this year, though benefits will be grandfathered for while longer.

Qantas’ frequent spenders who travel on reward flights often are set to lose out when the airline cuts its popular Points Club program, as well as Green Tier, in late 2026. It’s part of a wider overhaul that also includes changes to elite status tiers.

Point Hacks understands that the two programs will go offline sometime in October or November 2026. However, members who have already earned those tiers will be able to keep their benefits for the remainder of their current membership year.

Notably, with the removal of the Points Club, the ability to earn Status Credits on Reward flights will become harder. We quizzed Qantas Loyalty CEO Andrew Glance on this, and he says they’re keenly aware of it.

“We are looking for a new home for that benefit. We’re aware that it’s a much-loved benefit and will look at a way to implement it again in the future,” he said.

Some benefits will appear elsewhere

For frequent travellers, the loss of the Points Club will be felt the most. Members are currently able to earn Status Credits on Qantas-operated Classic Flight Rewards, which would normally earn nothing. Points Club Plus members also have the ability to rollover 100 Status Credits each year, and also enjoy complimentary Qantas Club membership.

The status rollover will appear in a new form, launching as a permanent benefit in 2027. However, instead of a fixed 100 SC rollover, members will instead earn 50% of any excess Status Credits earned over their threshold. Former Green Tier tasks may also appear as new options to earn Status Credits on the ground.

The vouchers currently offered in Points Club might also become a new status tier perk for Silver members and higher, also starting from 2027.

Overall, Qantas says it’s trying to simplify its program, though it seems many of us have grown used to the benefits of Points Club (and Green Tier).

  1. So many ridiculous comments in here. You may not like the changes to a loyalty program, but that doesn’t make it a scam. Every company wants to maximise profits, it’s up to you as a consumer to speak with your wallet or lobby your local member or authority if you take issue with their actions. All you status credit chasers place far too much importance on this side quest, you still wake up feeling exactly the same each morning whether you’ve qualified for lifetime this or rolled over that.

    Points Club base camp and Plus are great programs that will be sadly missed, they have delivered many benefits, but there is no onus on Qantas to provide them, count yourselves lucky that Qantas introduced them at all. The game has now changed and it’s up to you to change with it, or play a different game.

  2. The way Qantas approaches PC and PC+ is fundamentally flawed when it came to gifting the benefits related to lounge and Club membership.

    Floating between Gold and Platinum for some years, my QFF status has always gained access to lounge. However, I’d chase PC+ for the 100 SC rollover. When I reached PC, it activates the benefit of a lounge pass which Qantas themselves notes “As you are already Gold/Platinum, please gift this pass to a family member”. However, when you hit PC+ and it activates a twelve month Qantas Club, – in typical Qantas style… no ability to gift the Club membership when it has zero value to me or others that are Gold/Platinum.

    I articulated this issue on a number of occasions with Qantas FF representatives but every time the response was “Computer says No”. Made no logical sense – there is no additional cost to Qantas to allow me to gift that benefit i have earned by achieving 350,000 points within a twelve month window.

    I’m sure I wasn’t the only person who’d intentionally chase PC+ for the 100 SC rollover to maintain Gold and encounter the same issue where a single lounge pass could be gifted and the ‘upgraded’ benefit could not.

  3. My husband’s membership ends on 30/11/26 and as the additional status credits (which he will have) won’t start rolling over until 2027, he will lose out on that and need an additional 100 status credits to retain Gold for 2027.

  4. Losing the Points Club Plus status credits on points flights benefit is a huge loss for me.

    Gold will be 100 SC higher to maintain, with no SC PC rollover, no green tier – all up 250 SC harder – so 140 on the ground won’t cut it! Even with small excess rollover, I’ll be much worse off.
    Add to that no SC for reward flights!

    Question: if I achieve PCP by November for membership year ending 31/3/27, Will it be honoured with all benefits until 31/3/28? Or only for the current year to 31/3/26?

    Considering that I can access Virgin lounge via Platinum Amex, i may look to move to Virgin for my 12-14 domestic return flights/year. If Virgin offer a status match, that would seal the deal!

  5. Terrible as usual, but that’s Qantas. Biting the hand that feeds them is a dangerous game, pulling major benefits to frequent flyers / investors in the program is very short sighted. They are pushing us all towards EK / BA / etc.

  6. Watching people at work try so hard to schedule their occasional travel to add to their Qantas FF earnings shows just how gullible people are. I’ve played the FF game for years when based in the UK and trust me when I say , QFF is an exploitative joke if you travel infrequently but more fool those who believe in it. To be honest I’m surprised Qantas didn’t announce these changes as “we have enhanced our FF program in response to customer feedback! ” which is what British Airways would do every time they snatched away a FF benefit !

  8. That is very very disappointing news from Qantas. The points club lounge membership and SC on rewards flight was the only reason I made an effort and saw value in accruing Qantas points. It doesn’t make sense that you may not be able to get SC on rewards bookings anymore…

As usual, Qantas , an airline in rapid decline, who provides (domestically) the exact same service as Virgin (but charges bw 25-30% more in all fare buckets) will make it harder to accrue status, which only becomes useful at Gold , (and even that costs well over $10-$20k AUD) per year) – will take a points based frequent flyer scam and make rewards more easily redeemable?

    Sorry, they already did that when they ‘overhauled’ the scam last time (2023/24) and introduced ‘classic plus’ award flights for every Qantas flight at 10x the cost of the regular ‘classic ‘ awards , while disappearing the real award flights & giving them to Platinum members only..

    I have long maintained that for those who are travelling all the time , it’s very handy & you are well looked after.

    For those who travel a few times a year the scam is completely worthless unless you have a bank of several million points.

    Other than that, you can’t actually use your points for anything.

    So, this doesn’t shock me. Qantas have been in decline for the last decade while making the most outrageous profits , all while charging through the roof for a very basic product.

  10. I’m confused by the quoted 140 limit
    140 is absolutely nothing towards a Silver or Gold
    but is that 140 in each category is possible

    or 140 is the maximum can only be acheived by spending 20 in every one of 7 categories

  11. I have been trying to rack my brain if I will end off in a better spot and it appears no and its going to be much harder to retain platinum.

    I earn around 50k points a month through my business and use Points Club Plus with many international flights on points getting status credits.

    I like the 100 point rollovers.

    Qantas: I think you are just about to lose me to Virgin. I don’t see any material benefit for staying. Therefore, I would be quick to update how the scheme is going to evolve “now” rather than updates later in 2026 or 2027.

    1. Here here.Espec8ally for Domestic travel there is zero advantage travelling Qantas.

      For me, my home airport is Melbourne, and with Virgin, their domestic terminal and gates are smack bang in the middle of the airport. They’re literally the easiest gates to access and you basically avoid most of the traffic at security , as Qantas is off towards the end of the terminal.

      Virgin operates theough gates 1-10, are within easy walking distance.
      In every single fare bucket, Virgin are cheaper than Qantas, often by 30%.

      It still blows me away that Qantas charge $285 for one way MEL-CNS while Virgin charges $205 for the same fare type. Everything is the same except you have to pay for food, drinks and internet (if you need it)

      Virgin also have options for those travelling without checked baggage.

      Flying QF is nearly impossible to justify unless it’s international, amd even then they gouge you.

  12. Trust Qantas to wrap up a mid digit with a big red “Qantas loves ya” bow!
    SC on classic rewards flights was the biggest benefit of Points Club, and I’m yet to be convinced that anything their tier improvements or “on the ground” status earnings will come close to it.

  13. I hope to hear soon where Points club ability to earn status credits from Classic flight rewards will be reintroduced.
    A lot of the other points club benefits have alternatives, but this one “may be implemented in the future”

  14. I acquire 500000 points p/a and get big benefit from points club plus. Many F flights on QFF.
    Looking at crashing out of QFF and QF soon. I think I’ll stick with VA/SQ miles and Avios in the future. I don’t rate EK and QF F class very highly anyway.
