Heading to Melbourne Park for the tennis this year? If you have Marriott Bonvoy points to spare, you can turn them into lounge access at the Australian Open. This provides entry into the dedicated Marriott Bonvoy Lounge at the venue, serving as a place to relax and soak up the atmosphere.
It’s the latest experience bookable via ‘Marriott Bonvoy Moments’. Happily, the pricing in points is quite accessible. Just 30,000 Marriott Bonvoy points can get you a pass for two to the lounge for an entire day. You just need your own Australian Open tickets for entry to Melbourne Park, making this the perfect upgrade for tennis fans.
Inside the lounge, expect complimentary drinks to start. There are also nibbles curated by award-winning chef Massimo Mele. He’s Culinary Director of Peppina at The Tasman, A Luxury Collection Hotel in Hobart. There’ll also be gratis massage treatments and appearances throughout the tournament by many familiar faces. Marriott tips that this year, you might spot Ash Barty, Katie Boulter, Casey Dellacqua, Mark Philippoussis and Samantha Stosur.

Be mindful as well that ‘Moments experiences are limited,’ advises Marriott. They’re ‘only available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.’ This includes access to the Marriott Bonvoy Lounge at the Australian Open. Marriott is releasing lounge tickets day by say, so you can search for availability and book via the Marriott Bonvoy Moments website.

Be aware too that points transfers to Marriott Bonvoy may not always be processed instantly. If you’re transferring points, check for the conversion timelines applicable to that partner program. And finally, note that every year, Marriott Bonvoy members can only make five Moments bookings each, across all events. That’s one way of spreading the opportunities around!

That sounds like a TERRIBLE return on points… 30k points just for lounge access..
Marriott’s highest-tiered members accrue 100+ elite nights per year (on top of the spend requirements, etc). At that level of travel (which would likely be business related – away from home), the last thing many of those members would want is yet another hotel stay or to convert points across for yet another flight. Yet, with all those journeys, travellers like this can have Marriott points balances in the six or easily seven figures, with no real desire to use them. Things like ‘money can’t buy’ experiences can appeal here because it’s something other than a hotel room or a flight, and it’s something that can be shared, such as with their partner. There’s definitely a market for these sorts of redemptions – it’s just not necessarily the everyday, mainstream type of member. (Remember the Qantas Frequent Flyer member who happily bid 900,000 Qantas Points for an experience in a Qantas Boeing 787 flight simulator, for something different?)
