The Qantas Premier Platinum card is also compatible with mobile wallets. This means you can add the card to Apple Pay and Google Pay, and accrue Qantas Points at the usual rates when making payments through these mobile wallets.

Travel rewards and benefits with Qantas

Beyond the points earned via Qantas Premier Platinum, cardholders can make use of many other travel rewards too. Among the benefits, there’s airport lounge access, discounts on flights, travel insurance and more. Here’s a rundown.

  • 2x Qantas lounge passes every year. These are valid in domestic Qantas Clubs and Qantas International Business Lounges (excluding LAX).
  • Discounted companion airfares. Save up to 20% on selected Qantas and QantasLink domestic bookings once per Anniversary Year for you and up to eight companions.
  • Six months interest-free on your first eligible Qantas purchase. This can include Qantas flights, Qantas Club memberships, Qantas gift vouchers, Qantas Marketplace orders and more.
  • Overseas travel insurance. Coverage for up to 30 days on a return trip ($500 excess).
  • Domestic travel insurance. Be covered for up to 14 days on a return trip ($500 excess).
  • Qantas Money Credit Card Concierge. A telephone service offering restaurant recommendations and reservations, tickets for major events, party planning assistance and more.

Depending on your travel habits, the discounted companion airfares could deliver some serious savings. Particularly when travelling during peak periods such as school holidays. You could save 10% on Red eDeal fares that sit towards the higher end of the pricing spectrum, as well as 15% on Flex Economy tickets. If you’re booking Qantas Business when flights aren’t already on sale, you’ll save 20% (on J and C class tickets).

As for the travel insurance, just use the Qantas Premier Platinum card to pay for all the eligible airfares for each eligible trip. Refer to the PDS issued by Qantas Money for details on the coverage, including important exclusions and limitations.

Point Hacks pro tip: Before relying on travel insurance provided by a credit card, be sure to check that your journey is covered each and every time you travel. Particularly when it comes to qualifying for that coverage, the duration of the journey and any specific activities undertaken. As well, check whether you need to hold a round-trip ticket before commencing travel, as this can be common requirement.
