New Mercure opens on La Trobe Street in Melbourne’s CBD

Built from the ground up, this Mercure might be one of the best value-for-money stays.

A new Accor hotel has opened in Melbourne’s west, the first new Mercure development to open in the CBD in a decade. Formally a tinsmith factory, Mercure Melbourne La Trobe Street is an 18-story production house with 195 rooms, six suites, a restaurant, bar and gym.

Situated towards Melbourne’s west, it offers a unique escape, just minutes from major tourist spots. It is also a more affordable option for visitors wanting to stay in the inner city.

“We’re in a unique pocket of the city and are fortunate to have great separation between ourselves and other tall buildings on all sides,” General Manager, Justin Phillips said.

On the higher end of the scale, the Superior Suite has impressive views.

Standard rooms start from a public rate of A$188 and a member rate of A$179. All Accor+ Explorer members can also enjoy an additional 15% off.

While Mercure is regarded as a mid-tier ‘value’ brand, this shiny new build could challenge some of the older, higher-tier Accor brands in the city. Chief Operating Officer of Accor in the Pacific Region, Adrian Williams, says it’s an exciting step not only for Accor but for Melbourne’s tourism.

“The hotel brings a bold new expression of our Mercure brand to the heart of the city, thoughtfully designed for how today’s travellers live, work and explore.”

Accor Live Limitless members who are also Qantas Frequent Flyer members can double-dip by earning both ALL and Qantas Points on stays. The property also recognises ALL Accor+ Explorer members, who can benefit from using their room and dining discounts at the Mercure Melbourne La Trobe Street.

Summing Up

The newly built Mercure Melbourne La Trobe Street is a great value for money if you’re looking for a place to stay while visiting. Melbourne’s west is an ideal location for tourists, more so than for office workers, as it’s within walking distance of many hotspots around Melbourne.

Compared to the older Mercure hotels in Melbourne, it’s also shaping up to be one of the best-value Accor stays in the city, especially if you value the mod-cons in your hotel room.
