Velocity Frequent Flyer is getting bigger and better. The same can also be said of your Velocity Points balance under this latest deal with Flybuys. Transfer points from Flybuys to Velocity this month and you could take home 5% or 15% bonus Velocity Points on your first transfer.

It’s super easy to earn Velocity Points through Flybuys. If you’re not already a member, Flybuys is even free to join. Every 1,000 Flybuys points you collect can become an easy 500 Velocity Points. If you’re not a Velocity Frequent Flyer member yet, signing up is also free and only takes a couple of minutes — just follow this link.

For convenience, you can set your Flybuys points to Auto Transfer into Velocity Points. This happens every time you have at least 1,000 Flybuys points in your account. Opting for Auto Transfer keeps those Velocity Points rolling in – getting you to your next flight or upgrade even faster. After all, that’s what the revamped Velocity program is all about.

Speaking of getting rewards even faster, you’ll want to jump on the latest points transfer deal from Flybuys to Velocity. On your first transfer during the Promotion Period, you could pocket 15% bonus Velocity Points using Auto Transfer, or 5% bonus Velocity Points if you transfer points manually.

At the 15% rate, that’s the most generous bonus offer for Flybuys-to-Velocity transfers since 2020. Here’s the drill – don’t miss out!

Earn 15% bonus Velocity Points via Flybuys Auto Transfer

If you haven’t previously activated Velocity Auto Transfer on your Flybuys account, this is the offer for you. Under Flybuys’ most generous offer for more than two years, you could take home 15% bonus Velocity Points. Here’s what you’d need to do.

  1. Start by turning on Auto Transfer to Velocity Points via your Flybuys account. You’ll need to enable that during the Promotion Period, which runs between 12 am AEST on 15 June 2023 and 11:59 pm on 30 June 2023.
  2. During the Promotion Period, have at least one automatic conversion of Flybuys points into Velocity Points. For every 1,000 Flybuys points in your account transferred, you’ll receive 500 Velocity Points. Because Flybuys points transfer to Velocity in multiples of 1,000 Flybuys points, that’s the minimum you’d need to have in your Flybuys account to have at least one automatic transfer.
  3. When you turn on Auto Transfer, any existing Flybuys points in your account will also become Velocity Points as part of the opt-in process.
  4. On your first Auto Transfer during the Promotion Period, you’ll collect 15% bonus Velocity Points on the lot. There’s a maximum cap of 30,000 bonus Velocity Points under this offer. But you’d only hit that ceiling if you transfer an impressive 400,000 Flybuys points to Velocity via Auto Transfer. These bonus points will be awarded within four weeks of 30 June 2023.
  5. All future Auto Transfers from Flybuys to Velocity will take place at the usual 2:1 rate, in multiples of 1,000 Flybuys points (500 Velocity Points).

Just be aware, this bonus isn’t available to Flybuys members who already have Auto Transfer enabled. It’s also not available to those who’ve previously opted into Auto Transfer. That’s true even for those who’d opted in, and later opted out, before the Promotion Period.

Earn 5% bonus Velocity Points when you manually transfer from Flybuys

If you’re not eligible for Flybuys’ Auto Transfer bonus offer, don’t fret. There’s a separate offer of 5% bonus Velocity Points when you manually transfer your rewards from Flybuys to Velocity.

This one’s a little easier to understand, too. All Flybuys members are eligible – including those who’ve previously (manually) transferred Flybuys points to Velocity. If you’ve previously used Flybuys Auto Conversion, this doesn’t disqualify you.

Here’s how it works. Make a manual points conversion from Flybuys to Velocity and you’ll earn an easy 5% bonus on your first transfer during the Promotion Period. To maximise your rewards, transfer all of your points to Velocity in one go. Consider making that transfer later in the month, if you’ll be collecting more Flybuys points throughout June.

There’s a cap of 10,000 bonus Velocity Points under this offer. But again, you’d only reach that cap after transferring 400,000 Flybuys points into 200,000 Velocity Points, so it’s not too limiting.

But to illustrate, let’s say you had 100,000 Flybuys points to transfer into Velocity Points. As every 1,000 Flybuys points equal 500 Velocity Points, that six-figure bounty fetches 50,000 Velocity Points on a normal day. Add a 5% boost under this deal, and that’s an extra 2,500 Velocity Points earned from a few easy clicks.

Those bonus Velocity Points will be credited to your account within four weeks of 30 June 2023. Just a reminder, the bonus only applies to your first eligible transfer during the Promotion Period: so make that transfer wisely.

Ways to spend your bonus Velocity Points

The bonus Velocity Points you could pocket under this deal can be spent in the same way as any other Velocity Points in your account. For instance, you could use them to book flights, upgrade to Business Class, redeem for merchandise and more.

Let’s say you savvily opt in to Auto Transfer and score the maximum bonus of 30,000 Velocity Points from Flybuys. That’s enough for at least three one-way Economy flights from Sydney to Melbourne under Virgin Australia’s Tier 2 and Tier 3 redemption rates. If you’re able to find flights at the lowest Tier 1 rates, you could redeem at least four one-way flights.

Perhaps you often travel on paid Economy tickets and would rather use those Velocity Points to upgrade? With 30,000 Velocity Points to spend, you could secure at least three one-way upgrades from Economy Choice to Business on the same route. If you fly on the higher-priced Economy Flex fares, that could be at least six one-way upgrades.

Speaking of Flex fares, here’s what we’d do with 30,000 Velocity Points. On cross-country flights, such as between Sydney and Perth, a one-way upgrade from Economy Flex to Business is just 9,900 Velocity Points. That’s three upgrades to Business Class on Australia’s longest domestic flights – and that’s just from the bonus points you could earn under this offer.

However you decide spend your Velocity Points is up to you!

Summing up

For those who’ve never used Auto Transfer from Flybuys to Velocity, this is a great chance to send your points soaring. Who doesn’t like earning extra points for free – just by moving your rewards from one account to another? But is transferring your Flybuys points to Velocity a good move in general?

On the one hand, Flybuys is a great option for redeeming points against your groceries. For every 2,000 Flybuys points in your account, you could get $10 off a future shop. But those same 2,000 Flybuys points could instead become 1,000 Velocity Points – and that’s without a bonus factored in.

The question becomes, whether 1,000 Velocity Points is more valuable than a $10 cash saving. In our books, those Velocity Points can definitely stretch further than $10. In fact, under our most recent valuation updates, we consider each Velocity Point as being worth 1.8 cents. For 1,000 Velocity Points, that’s $18 in value – more than the $10 cash saving by using points to offset your shopping.

Don’t forget, you can collect Flybuys points in many ways. Of course, you add to your Flybuys balance every time you shop at Coles, Kmart, Target, Liquorland and First Choice Liquor Market. But you can also get Flybuys points at Bunnings, Officeworks, and a slew of other partners.

Those Flybuys points could ultimately become Velocity Points – so what are you waiting for? Get shopping, and soon enough, your points could take you on a new adventure.
