Hi trying to book some business rewards seats to Honolulu with velocity and using your guide What to expect when flying to Hawaii from Australia - Point Hacks by checking on aa.com. I have found availability but after calling velocity to book they say they dont have availability. Is this guide still correct?

Since the guide is only published in Dec 2017, I would be leaning towards the advice in the article still being valid.
There are occurrences in some frequent flyer programs that are called phantom seats, which means seats that are actually not there when they initially say there are seats.
One way of double checking is to see whether the seats are there by calling AA too.
If AA says there are seats and Velocity agent says no seats, I would try calling Velocity at a different time to get a different agent. If both agent says no, I would consider calling a third time or just conclude that Velocity sees less award space than AA for Hawaiian Air.
