How to know when to pay the surcharge on credit card payments?

Hi there,

We have the Amex Business Platinum Charge Card where 1 point = 1 velocity frequent flyer point, among other airlines as well

We’re looking at transfering our direct deposit payments through rewardpay.com.au - I understand point hacks has equity in this company, but nonetheless, I still want to figure out how we can determine if a 2.4% + GST service fee is worth putting our direct deposit payments through for the frequent flyer points?

How do we mathematically work this out?

We’d be using the points both for general flight tickets as well as in flight upgrades

Thanks,

On the equity suggestion, I’m confirming Point Hacks has no business interest in RewardPay, and they are one of our site sponsors at the moment.

Hi,

Here are some previous questions on a similar topic. Please have a read and ask further questions if you still have more queries.

How to compute/compare value of earning points on fuel spend?

When should I pay credit card surcharge? How do I calculate this?

I am not 100% sure I understand what you mean by Point Hacks having equity in Rewardpay. I am personally not sure of this myself. However, I do know that as of April 2017, RewardPay and Point Hacks are commercial partners.

Based on my layman understanding in the terms, having equity means having a portion of the ownership. Commercial partner means there is a business agreement in place for sharing of profits or getting some commission or a whole lot of other possibilities in the commercial world.

Thanks for that, you’re probably right regarding commercial partner, I can’t remember the vested interest Point Hacks have.

Nonetheless I read this article which values Velocity at 1.2c and 1.4c for Qantas

If Reward Pay charges a fee of 2.4% which is double the earn rate of Velocity, why would anyone use the Reward Pay service?

I’m sure there’s a reason for this, I’m just trying to get my head around things here

Thanks

I earn 2ppd when using reward pay. Wouldn’t use if I was earning lower or would use sparingly over the quarter.
