Virgin Australia sometimes releases promo codes that take up to 30% off flights, though usually the discount is pegged around 10-15%.
Do note that discounted sale fares are usually excluded from further discounts with a promo code. However, you may be able to stack a cashback tool on top of those purchases.
Current Virgin Australia promo & discount codes
For the latest promo & discount codes, check out this thread on Australian Frequent Flyer.
If our site has been useful for you, it would be appreciated if you booked your Virgin Australia flights through the Point Hacks link. Or, join and use Cashrewards which will earn us a small commission. (Either way, it doesn’t affect the prices for you!).
How do I use a Virgin Australia promo & discount code?
The steps to use a Virgin Australia promo & discount code is simple:
- Visit the Virgin Australia website or click through a cashback program of your choice (e.g. Cashrewards)
- On the new homepage, enter your origin and destination.
- Choose your date of travel
- Choose the number of passengers. On this same page, enter the promo code in the box, then click ‘Continue to flights’
- If the promo code works, you should see a red ‘Special fare’ tag on eligible fares
- Choose a fare and continue with the checkout process to secure your discount
Can I stack a discount code and Cashrewards?
There is the possibility that if you click through the Cashrewards link and then use a discount code, it could void the cashback.
Generally, the discount codes are usually more generous than the cashback rate. If both work, then great. If not, then at least you got a healthy discount through the promo code.

BDR47 seems to be not working anymore… any ideas?
Cheers
Anybody aware of any codes valid now it is February for international long haul? Trying to help out some friends traveling to an event. Thanks!
Just trying to book SYD-LAX (return) for 2 people..
Sadly it appears no availability on the dates in question (2 months out!) for using points to upgrade so not much point in booking them as flexible economy..
Anyone else finding the same?
One or two companies I have consulted to have circulated VA discount codes for genuine business travel as part of the corporate contract between that company and the airline.
Using the code otherwise would be unethical at the least. Promoting these codes publicly could get you in a lot of trouble from VA!
In this case, for example, the “BDH” might be an abbreviation for the accountancy firm.
Of course, if the code is publicly useable all and good – it might be prudent to confirm such with VA and include a note to that effecting the article.
We have very different perceptions of business ethics, Sam….
…A gentle reminder that IHG purged accounts of those members who were suspected of using promotional codes not specific to them, so such behaviour comes with some risk…
Of course the matter could be settled quickly enough by the gold folk at PointHacks simply contacting VA and confirming their intention is for these codes to be widely circulated and reporting such in the article….
My company received the GTW47 promo email when it was released, it states it runs until 30-Sept.
Just btw. CLX79 took 10% off of a PER-MEL el-cheap-o fare via Cashrewards. The other code there only took 5% off the same fare. 269 -> 256 Vs 246 (19/2)
Have noticed a real hike in Virgin fares this year since release of new fare structure.
Anyone out there noticing a difference in bums on seats on flights?
Didn’t expect it to, but might be useful to add it to the body of the post.
Saw your tweet, can’t get BKW29 to work. Travelling 25/8/2017. Any suggestions?
Cheers Keith
These codes GFM23/CFQ29 are both inactive now – are there any updates?
Love your work!
FGM23
Both worked great, saved on 3 flights, used your link so you get the commission. Thanks for the help
Just wondering whether you’d still be able to earn FF points and status credits, if booked using any of these promo codes?
Thanks
I tried the gjm59 for an international businesses flight and got a great deal. I’m not an employee and was just wondering do you know of anyone having any issues using that promo code where they are not employees
I tried the BGS48 code and it doesn’t seem to work anymore.
Cheers, Vince
I purchased discounted fares late last year for a MEL-SYD return trip and upgraded to Business Class in the Melbourne lounge.
When checking in at the Sydney lounge, I was told I could not upgrade due to the ticket being purchased at a discount. I looked through the UpgradeMe Points Terms and Conditions and found nothing to support this, and explaining this and showing my boarding pass for the MEL-SYD leg in Business saw an exception made and I was upgraded.
I’ve written to Virgin about this and internally they are clarifying exactly what happened here. Something to potentially keep in mind if you’re looking to enjoy an upgrade.
Virgin have written back to me as follows:
I’ve managed to get a response from airport standards who have confirmed that yes you can still upgrade from a sale fare. As such the Sydney Lounge team members will be updated accordingly.
Does this mean the sale offer is still available if you use that code? The sale website states it end on 25 Nov.
10% off (excluding sale fares) for bookings from 1 October 2015 to 31 December 2015 for travel up to 30 June 2016.
A 20 day advance purchase period applies.
i just made >$1000 of reservations yesterday damn what a pity!!
