On our second day at the InterContinental, we decided that we could actually afford to stay an extra night, shifting our flight from an early morning departure to one later the following day. This gained us about 30 hours additional time at the resort.

This was handled by booking into a Club InterContinental room which had the few remaining rooms in the resort, and after IHG Ambassador status upgrades kicked in we were staying in a 2 Bedroom Club suite. Given my previous write-up on the main resort area and a pair of Ocean View rooms , this one focuses on the Club InterContinental specifically.

Club InterContinental Fiji – Club dining and pool

The Club complex is situated at the top of the resort, well away from the beach, and maybe a 5m walk from the check-in and main restaurant. If you’re staying here you’ll typically be using golf carts to get around – we didn’t ever have to wait more than 5 minutes for one, and the guys driving them were super-friendly and helpful.

The Club has it’s own building with a small restaurant and a pool for Club guests only. The pool is supposed to be adults only, and typically the weather turned for our last 24 hours so we didn’t see anyone using it.

The dining area was well-staffed and offered a light lunch and snacks menu, as well as buffet options included in the Club room price. We grabbed lunch there on our first day with Club access.

Our Club room was in a Bure that was just a bit too far to want to walk to / from the Club, so we were in golf-cart land. Not an issue though.

The top-floor rooms come without a private pool, while the ground floor rooms come with. With the Club pool rooms, you would be so quiet and secluded that, if you were happy to just head to the Club for food and avoid the beach, you’d never really need to leave the complex.

The Club two bedroom suite has a huge main living area which opens onto the master bedroom and wide balcony.

Behind the bedroom is the master bathroom too. The balcony contains an outdoor bath a some couches if you want to hang out outdoors.

This configuration gives the lounge and bedroom some stunning views.

Instead of turning right from the front door of the suite (toward the lounge/bedroom), turning left opens into a hallway which leads to the second large bathroom and a twin bedroom.

Summary – Club InterContinental Fiji

I found the Club to be too secluded for my liking, and I was glad that we had spent the majority of our time staying in the main resort.

If you want relative isolation and to keep yourselves to yourselves, then stay in the Club – it’s easy to accomplish. You can get out and about without too much trouble, but if you’re planning to use the main beach and pool facilities, you might as well stay near them – you won’t lose too much from not staying the club.

The primary benefits of the Club InterContinental Fiji are:

  • Rooms with private pools
  • Rooms with multiple bedrooms
  • A quiet, adults-only pool
  • Itokani butler service
  • Breakfast at a choice of three venues
  • Afternoon tea, sunset canapés and cocktails, and all-day non-alcoholic drinks in the lounge
  • Complimentary daily replenishable non-alcoholic mini-bar
  • Seclusion, and generally far fewer people around

Having said that seclusion doesn’t necessarily mean quiet, there was a fairly rowdy group carrying on out on another balcony until the early hours the night we were there.

The Club room itself was super-spacious, but I definitely preferred the rooms at the main InterContinental complex – the Club room was primarily tiled and echoey, and felt a little soul-less.

It’s not that I didn’t enjoy our last night here – but the logistics of staying at the Club just meant it wasn’t for me.
