Following my Qantas Dreamliner flight from Melbourne to Perth, I needed accommodation for one night before flying back to Sydney.

I usually stay at the Four Points located in the CBD, however, on this trip I wanted to check out the new Aloft Perth, which is located in Rivervale, just 10 minutes from the CBD and 15 minutes from the airport. My business regularly holds events in Perth each year, so was in also interested in inspecting the Aloft conference facilities.

Research & Booking

The Aloft Perth is ranked #6 out of 66 hotels in Perth on TripAdvisor, which is at the top end of the pack.

At the time of writing this review, this property was classified as an SPG Category 3 property, costing 7,000 Starpoints per night.

Due to the merger of SPG into Marriott Rewards, this is now a Marriott Category 3 property, costing 15,000/17,500/20,000 Marriott Rewards points per night (off-peak/standard/peak).

I booked a standard Aloft Room on a flexible SPG Member rate for $171 per night.

On arrival, the very friendly and super helpful Leila knew it was my first stay, so she explained all the hotel facilities.

Due to my SPG Platinum status, I was upgraded to a Breezy Corner Room, which averages $260-$300 per night.

The Room: Breezy Corner King Room

Stepping into the room via the hallway, there is Perth-inspired wall art on the right side and entry to the large bathroom on the left.

When I walked into the bedroom, all I could think was, ‘WOW!’

Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the 33-square-metre room with sunlight and deliver panoramic views north over the Swan River and out west over to the airport.

AvGeeks will enjoy sitting on the chaise lounge and watching aircraft land or take-off—though bring your zoom lens if you want to photograph them.

There are a mini-fridge and tea and coffee making facilities just after the entrance.

A large 55-inch LED television hangs on the wall, which can be watched from the king-sized bed or chaise lounge. A table is positioned in front of the lounge so you can work from the lounge or sit in the chair on the opposite side. A power point is located under the TV so you can charge your laptop while working at the table.

More power points with inbuilt USB sockets are located on both sides of the bed along with master light switches.

The bathroom features a walk-in ‘rainforest’ shower, luggage storage area, cupboard, safe and hanging space.

Bliss-branded toiletries are included. This is the same brand of products you’ll find at W Hotels, however, Aloft provides a different selection of products.

Around Aloft Perth

As I was only there overnight I didn’t have the opportunity to explore the immediate area. I dined out in the CBD, which is only 10 minutes via taxi or rideshare.

Our take – Aloft Perth

Aloft Hotels are marketed as ‘a vision of W Hotels’ and this hotel certainly hits the brief with its funky design language. The lower price point of the Aloft will also have a wider appeal than a W Hotel.

Its proximity to the airport, excellent parking and event facilities will also appeal to business travellers.

I was really impressed by the room, facilities and value, so I’ll definitely choose the Aloft for my next Perth stay or business event.
