Where best to transfer my Citibank point to?

Hi Guys,

I have over 450,ooo points on Citibank. So far what I know is Velocity is the best value point-to-point, as it only need 2.5 citibank point to convert to a point. Whereas Emirates and SIA needs 3. The problem is Velocity needs to be at least Gold tier before I can upgrade.

I am getting tired of Citibank constant changing and my point worth diluted endlessly. So I am thinking to fully transfer my point to either of these.

I would like to find out;

  1. Which of the three would you recommend to transfer to?
  2. I am only keen to use it on travel, on upgrade to business or buy a business ticket.
  3. Which of the credit card that I should stick to to continue earning the point to redeem for upgrades and business class tickets.

It depends where you travel most. If the vast majority of what you do travel-wise is domestic and short-haul international, transferring to Velocity would make the most sense. You don’t need to be Gold to upgrade on short-haul flights, only for long haul to the states and Hong Kong.

With Emirates obviously where Dubai is geographically it’s going to be great for you if the majority of your travel is to Africa and Europe, but otherwise having your points in Skyward doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.

I don’t know your situation and what your plans are, but for me personally I would be saying Singapore Airlines to get the most use. Upgrades and business class on short-haul flights with Virgin to Fiji, Bali or NZ for example are nice but not essential; if I’m sat in economy for four hours on a daytime flight, I’ll live. Singapore have an extensive network within Asia and onwards to Europe as well, however through their partnership with Virgin you can still use Krisflyers for seats on Virgin Australia. This way you will have better access to business and premium seats with Singapore, and you can upgrade as well.

Thanks for taking the time to help me.

It would be 99% overseas long haul, which I am assuming for continents like NA and EU.

I discovered this issue yesterday by chance when I browse for options. It is >30hours leg to get to NA US. So it isn't ideal. So I understand this part of the suggestion as well.

This sounds like the most optimum. Given that if I have the need to fly to NA, I could jsut focus on Virgin Australia.
My following question if you dont mind; What credit card should I focus on once I given citibank the flick to continue to accrue point to Krisflyers and the likes.
