Are Medibank Health insurance payments eligible payments on Virgin High Flyer card?

I called Virgin just now to ask if the Medibank health insurance payment I made yesterday will be an eligible purchase, and the person told me it’s not. This came as a shock as I didn’t read this anywhere else. Can anyone confirm this?

Unfortunately I think they are correct as Medibank is owned by the government and any payments to these bodies are not ‘eligible purchases’. From their T & Cs…

Velocity Points are earned on Eligible Transactions only. Eligible Transaction means any purchase excluding (but not limited to) Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, BPAY payments, purchases of foreign currency and  travellers cheques, transactions made in operating a business, bank fees and charges such as interest and ATM charges and government related transactions. Government related transactions include transactions with government or semi-government entities, or relating to services provided by or in connection with government  (for example but not limited to transactions made at Australia Post, payments to the Australian Taxation Office, council rates, motor registries, tolls, parking stations and meters,  fares on public transport,  fines and court related costs).

I don’t think that’s entirely true. Medibank was sold in 2014 right?

I just did a history check and Medibank was listed on the ASX in Nov 2015 so perhaps their exclusion is invalid. What about Point Hacks doing a follow up on this?

Hi,

A mate of mine has the card and his direct debit payment for medibank earned him 1 pt per dollar. I think that means it is an eligible transaction.
