Any experience using Velocity points to book Business class reward flights from Sydney to Johannesburg?

Hi all,

I have been reading lots of articles here on the page and picked up lots of great ideas.
Has anyone got any experience, (likelihood) of using some of my Velocity points for a Business Class trip to from Sydney to Johannesburg? Currently the easiest and shortest route will be with Virgin (VA) to Perth then South African Airways (SAA) to Johannesburg. Plan B or C is with Singapore Airlines (SQ) or Etihad (EY) via the long way round.

Every search I have done on the VA website never shows any reward flights to Johannesburg, with SAA, EY or SQ.

I am thinking this might be an easier to organise use of my points for a holiday than trying to snag a few reward seats on the super popular East Coast to EU routes.

Any ideas?

Hi,

I agree that Velocity premium seat redemptions to EU and USA from Aus is rare or practically non-existent (some would say).

You may have better luck to South Africa or routes not involving Australia (e.g. SIN-JNB).

Calling Velocity call centre is helpful for some routes not shown on the website too.
