Can SPG Gold Status earned from a credit card be status matched to Marriott Rewards Gold?

Hi Guys,

Has anyone had any experience with a CC offering SPG Gold status? I understand this can be matched by Marriott Rewards with their recent partnership, which seems like the better program. Looking at getting SPG Gold Status through an Citibank Emirates card if that helps.

World Mastercards and Amex Platinum Charge could get you SPG gold. The former has a current promo challenge of staying 1 night at a SPG hotel in the Asia Pacific region, which is relatively easy.
