Best ways to maximise 200,000 Velocity points for Asia to Europe trip in Aug/Sep 18?

Hi All,

I have about ~200,000 velocity points.

I’ll be travelling around SEA next year with no fixed itinerary. I need to be in London for a wedding (date TBC) in Aug/Sep next year.

I’d like to book flights (2 seats) from a hub in Asia to London. Very flexible with regard to dates / airlines / countries - for example could be Singapore Airlines from Singapore, Virgin Atlantic from HK or Etihad from UAE.

I’d love some advice on maximising the points for the flight - ideally business or first class one way. Could look at return flight also but I don’t think points would stretch. Any suggestions on which airlines / hubs to look at, best time to book etc?

Thanks in advance!!

Hi,

Two ideas spring to mind:

  • depart from Hong Kong as they don’t charge fuel surcharges

  • get yourself to Columbo (points or cash) and take a paid fare from CMB to EU/UK.

Seeing as you want to use your points, look at using these for AU-CMB return, for two, either in economy or business. Then pay for CMB-EU/UK return. Or price up multi-city CMB-EU/UK, EU-AUS, in business (don’t fly out of U.K. in business - the departure tax is very high) and use your points just to to get to CMB for two.

Regards,

Bluenose.

I’d be looking to fly SQ in F SIN>LHR.

107.5K KF miles per ticket though, so start earning a few more miles/points.

You could go in J for 80K each, which you’d be close to having by transferring 200K velocity into KF, you’d be about 6K short per pax.

Alternatively, you could try to book direct through velocity @ 92K each if you can find availability.
