Is it possible to win United's status match challenge without flying United?

I’m Qantas Platinum and I’ve got an upcoming Melbourne-Europe trip that I want to use to status match to Star Alliance. United’s challenge looks like the best option to do this (is it?) but my trip won’t be via the US. Potentially I would fly RTW via Canada if needed to win the challenge, but not the US.

I’ve been trying to research the earn rates for United PQMs when booking via another airline’s site - or the Star Alliance RTW site - but haven’t found something definitive. What United PQMs are earned when booking with another airline?

“you will need to earn a certain number of Premier qualifying miles (PQM) or Premier qualifying segments (PQS) on flights operated by United or United Express within a 90-day Offer Period.”
