How to cancel credit card whilst retaining travel insurance benefit on paid items?

Hi,

There are so many great bonus offer deals, so I want to open a new credit card and cancel my current card before I’m charged the next annual fee.

I have one issue: i have a holiday coming up that was booked on my current (ANZ black frequent flyer) card in order to use the free travel insurance. If I cancel my ANZ card and open a new card I’ll lose that travel insurance. Any advice how to change cards and retain or carryover the insurance?

Thanks!

Hi mondor88,

I reckon you can’t retain the travel insurance benefits once you cancel the card. You can try asking the bank whether you can do a product swap to a no annual fee card and still keep the travel insurance.

Alternatively, just buy a standalone travel insurance. These are usually better than the standard credit card travel insurance (except a few premium cards).
