Hi Guys, wanting to fly from MEL to SYD to NRT on first next year and was wondering if i booked using qantas points, i can stop over or transit in sydney. if so, does it require more points or just depends on the miles on the partner table?

If using Qantas flights, if you stopover >24 hours then yes, you’ll be charged more points. But if the time between your two flights is <24 hours then I would expect the total distance won’t go into a new price distance band and you’ll be able to get that flight included in the price. Easiest thing to do to check - price it up on Qantas.com and see.
If looking for JAL (which I think is what you’re question is implying) then you’ll be charged extra regardless.
