Etihad Guest recently became the latest airline program to partner with American Express Membership Rewards as a transfer partner. MR Points transfer over to Etihad Guest at 1 Mile : 1 Point, and there’s a 20% bonus promotion running on transfers until the end of March.
Up until now, it’s been particularly tricky to earn Etihad miles in Australia, so this is a real bonus for those looking to use the scheme. I’ll have to take a look into the details of their reward partnership with American Airlines, as this may turn out to be a more economical way of making redemptions on AA than through Qantas Frequent Flyer; leave it with me, I’ll write up my thoughts on that soon.
If you’re considering a specific redemption on Etihad then it could be worth transferring over the points now to take advantage of the bonus, but I wouldn’t transfer MR points over just to top up your Etihad Guest balance.
