LOYALTY PROGRAMS: Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer

KrisFlyer miles are one of the more valuable mileage currencies for us in Australia and we usually focus on their Business and First Class redemptions as being the ‘deal’.

KrisFlyer are offering 30% off their usual full redemption prices for Business and Economy travel to and from Singapore and a range of destinations, with highlights being Brisbane, Shanghai, Beijing, Delhi, Mumbai and Dubai.

I don’t normally advise points hunters to go after these redemptions, but these values are a good deal for one of the best Business and Economy classes out there if the dates and destinations fit your plans.

Now that KrisFlyer no longer applies fuel surcharges to redemptions on Singapore Airlines and SilkAir flights, the value of these redemptions has increased as you only have to pay the taxes and fees.

Offer details

From now till 31 August 2017, enjoy 30% KrisFlyer miles redemption discount when you redeem your KrisFlyer miles online for a Singapore Airlines or SilkAir flight on Choose from any of the destinations below and travel from 1 – 30 September 2017 inclusive.

The discount will automatically be applied during the booking process.

For example, the cost of a one-way Business Class redemption from Brisbane to Singapore drops from 58,000 to 40,600 KrisFlyer miles (plus only $92 in taxes – it is even less flying home).

As the travel period is only September, it unfortunately won’t be affected by the upgrade in planes being operated to Brisbane by Singapore Airlines from October.

Try to aim to fly in this Boeing 777-200 Business Class seat instead of the angled-flat A330 one

If you add on another leg to another discounted destination like Beijing, the promotion will apply to both sectors, i.e. you don’t have to make two separate bookings.

Note that there are blackout dates for some routes and specific eligible flight numbers, so check the promotion page for more details.

Offer history

There are indications that this promotion will run on a monthly basis (rather than more infrequently).

Transfer points from Velocity to KrisFlyer

You could also consider transferring over your Velocity points to KrisFlyer to take advantage of this deal and get some decent value from your Velocity balance.
