With thanks to Australian Aviation, here is a opportunity for runners and aviation geeks to get to know Sydney Airport a little more intimately while raising money for charity.

The morning of Saturday 5 November, the airport is holding the second annual Sydney Airport Runway Run, but it’s the first time that it will be open to the public.

It will take place on one of the airport’s operational runways.

You have to be at Blue Emu Car Park at 8:30am for the 10am race start. It concludes at noon, which makes me think that you will have time just to wander around and take pictures. Surely no one will take two hours to run 500 metres, or else you’re only advancing one metre every four minutes. Kinda like a Tiger Airways check-in line…ohhhhhhhh.

No spectators are allowed due to security and logistics, but you can run with your mobile phone to take photos.

There is a $100 registration fee, with 100% of the proceeds going to Ronald McDonald House Charities.

However, only 100 tickets are on sale and registration closes on 21 October or when tickets sell out.

Your fee includes parking for your car, the shuttle to and from car park, water on the bus and a Ronald McDonald outfit.

Children are allowed but must purchase their own ticket and run with an adult.

You can register for the race here.

If you do end up registering and competing in the race, we’d love to hear about it! Please contact us through private message on our Facebook page or by commenting below.
