Is the Westpac SQ Platinum Visa/Amex combo still the best card for earning KrisFlyer Miles?

This card is no longer available so it’s not an option for most people. I am not too familiar with it, but I understand that it has pretty excellent earn rates and is probably worth keeping hold of.

  • It is THE best card for direct KF miles with Amex (1.25 KF miles per $ spend), with the exception of the Platinum Edge Amex for Supermarkets and Fuel.
You can get close to that with 1.5 velocity miles per $ and then transferring to KF
(e.g NAB Platinum Velocity Amex). Ends up being about 1.1 KF miles per $ after transfer

Both the Westpac SQ Amex and Visa are still earning points with ATO, which is the only reason you would use the Visa at 0.5 KF miles per $

The way to earn the really big points is to run business expenses through a card or pay big ATO bills. This is about the only ATO friendly card left.

Of course, the card is no longer available for new applicants.

  • Thanks for sharing the ATO insights.

Note you could get a decent general KrisFlyer earn rate out of Westpac Altitude Black or Altitude Business Platinum at 1.5 / $ on the Amex, just without the ATO win.
Or if it makes sense for your spend patterns, the Amex Business Accelerator has 2 KF / $ on all spend except for ATO up to $50k spend per year.

  • Yes, I was going to mention the Amex Business Accelerator.
Depends on your spent pattern, but at a $50,000 points earning cap I have not bothered

Cool. Thank you Keith. So many new cards are on offer just wasn’t sure if it still hold value as I’ve had it since it first came out. The only other card I have is the Citibank Signature which is only used for the balance transfers.
