Virgin Money has reduced their eligible purchases scope again?

Just got an email saying that ‘spend on government related transactions will no longer be eligible to earn Velocity Points.’

The criteria here is quite broad:
‘Government related transactions include transactions with government or semi–government entities, or relating to services provided by or in connection with government (for example but not limited to transactions made at Australia Post, payments to the Australian Taxation Office, council rates, motor registries, tolls, parking stations and meters, fares on public transport, nes and court related costs).’

This is a pretty big negative towards the scheme. does anyone know if Qantas FF apply a similar restriction?

The limitation you refer to is on the credit card earn, it is nor something specific to Velocity.\r\n\r\nThe new restrictions on earning have been applied to pretty much any Citibank issued credit card, so if you have one of those that credits to Qantas, then that restriction will apply.

yes Oz_mark is right. this is not a decision of Virgin, it’s a decision of the card provider in this case Citibank. similarly Qantas does not make a decision on what card providers exclude from points. Please understand this distinction

Thanks for the clarification.\r\n\r\nHowever, given that it is Virgin Money’s branded Virgin credit card - its as good as an endorsement to me.
