How does one check for Velocity upgrade availability before booking an eligible flight for upgrading with points?

I want to purchase a Freedom fare on Virgin and then use points to upgrade to business class. How do I know when I purchase the Freedom fare that seats are available on the flight to upgrade to business. Don’t want to pay the extra for a Freedom fare only to find out there are no business seats available.

You could check whether there are “Business Reward” seats still available for the flight you are after.

Perform the search as if you are booking the business ticket outright with points. To do this, tick the check box “Use Point + Pay” and select the appropriate flight info.

In theory, as long as Business Reward is available when you request the upgrade, you would get the upgrade “straightaway”.
