I have redeemed a Reward Business Class seat on Japan Airlines through American Airlines. I would like to know what my options are with regards to upgrading to First Class.
Do I have to use points through American Airlines (AA) or Japan Airlines (JAL)? Can I use Qantas FF Points? Can I Bid through Qantas? Just curious how it works through OneWorld. Maybe upgrades with Japan Airlines isn’t even available.
In general, you can’t upgrade on a particular airline using points from another program. In addition, you generally cannot upgrade a reward seat using points, particularly when you have used another airlines points program to get the seat. However, given you booked through AA, it would be possible to use AA points to change to a higher class by paying the difference between the business and first award chart costs. This would only be possible if there is first class award availability.
no, you can’t . you can’t use Qantas points to upgrade on other airlines even if if it has QF number. the flight must be Qantas operated.
