Flying United Airlines - is it possible to earn points into Qantas frequent flyer or Qatar (both oneworld)?

Hi all,

Quick question. Been booked on a series of United flights for work. Currently a member with Qantas frequent flyer & Qatar Airways Privilege Club (both OneWorld).

Can’t see that theres any relationship between United and either of those points programs.

What are the options? It’s Melbourne - Los Angeles - Houston - Mexico & return. Fair few points to miss out on.

Do I join United’s program? Or is there a relationship with either of the program’s I’m already in that I can’t find online?

Thanks,

DJ

No relationship. United is star alliance and would not partner with its major rival one alliance .

That’s why alliances exist, they want you to stick to one alliance or affiliated group of airlines

If you had the choice, you should have selected American Airlines which is a one world member and offers bonus points for Qantas silver or above

No choice unfortunately Mark. Booked as part of a team trip by someone else.

Given that there’s every chance it could happen again is it worth adding another airline card to the collection?

Consider crediting these flights to KrisFlyer, given their connection to Velocity (can transfer points earned back to Velocity) and number of connections to bank rewards programs in Australia - that’s if the flights are booked in a high enough class to earn miles.
