ATO payments - Is it worthwhile to use a Qantas point earning credit card?

Hi all

I’ve read the article, it is very detailed and comprehensive but i’m struggling to get a grip of it (having never viewed card rewards as anything other than simple cash back {here in the Uk}). Can anyone provide a more basic explanation of whether it is worthwhile to pay ATO bills using the cards listed, for example a qantas points card?
Thanks
Shaun

Personally, what I would do is:

Look at the 1st table on link  detailing the cents per point for each card. You want to find a low one (cost less to ‘buy’ points - which in this case it is equivalent to your buying points). If you already have a card that give you the ability to ‘buy’ point cheaper than you threshold (maximum cost you are willing to pay for your points), you can use that card to pay the ATO and in the process earn/‘buy’ points.

If you don’t have a suitable card, consider getting one. Card choice/payment method all depends on how much you are willing to pay for points, how big your tax bill is, etc.

True for most circumstances (this included)->>> The best card for you may be different to mine and the best card can always change as time goes by.

Thank you. Being new to airmiles and new to Australia I don’t really know what I’d be willing to pay for a point. But what I do know is that if I’m paying a tax bill to ATO and it’s possible to earn points on it that work out as being more valuable than the card surcharge then I’d be happy.

New to points and hoping to use Qantas FF miles to upgrade maybe annual return flights from Syd to the UK - what should I be willing to pay for points? How can I work out whether this is worthwhile?

Thanks

Shaun
