Amex Velocity Platinum 100k bonus offer - can a recent supplementary cardholder apply and get the bonus?

Hi all,

Following the tips and tricks on Pointhacks I have accumulated over 500K in VFF points in about 2 years. Mainly I have used and abused the Credit Card sign on bonus methods. One favourite was the recent NAB 80k bonus. Easily done, then went to Cashrewards and bought $2500 in Woolies e-gift cards at a 5% discount. We all need to eat.

I have had and recently cancelled a Amex Platinum Velocity card. It was in my name with my wife as a supplementary card holder. Question is, can my wife now apply for the same card and have me as an additional card holder? Will this then trigger the 100K bonus, which can then be Family Pooled?
I don’t fully understand the below statement:

“Card Members who currently hold or who have previously held any Card product issued by American Express Australia Limited in the preceding 18 month period are ineligible for this offer. Previous and existing bank-issued American Express companion cardholders are eligible for this offer”

Secondly does it apply if I get the Westpac Amex/MC option for the 80K bonus?

Or will I just have to wait 18months from closing my Velocity Amex?
So many questions, some many points to collect.

thanks all

Dave

Hi Dave,

Answering 1 of your question: you have to wait 18 months from when you last hold an Amex-issued card (not a bank issued Amex). e.g. if you cancelled your only Amex issued card on the 1st of January 2017, you have to wait until 1st July 2018 to be eligible for any sign up bonus. Supplementary cards in your name from e.g. your partner does not count and will not affect your eligibility. So you could be holding a supp card from your partner’s Amex issued card from 1st of Jan 2017 to 1st of Jul 2018 in the example above and you will still be eligible for the signup bonus if you applied in July 2018.

Bank issued cards signup bonus have their own eligibility T&C. Conditions usually would only be cards belonging to the respective bank but will vary whether they have any 12 month waiting period before sign up bonus is eligible.

Thanks for the reply.

Looks like I’ll just have to hit the ANZ and Westpac offers in the interim.
