Qantas last week announced that they have cut the price of Jetstar redemptions by 20%. Previously they were priced at the same cost as Qantas operated flights, but you’d only receive the Jetstar low cost service.

At the top end of the plane, this used to make kind of sense to redeem for StarClass on routes where Qantas didn’t operate, or where Qantas didn’t have availability. Now Jetstar redemptions are definitely more fairly priced, especially in StarClass, so keep your eye out for those when looking into award availability and routes for your travels.

In my research, I couldn’t find any availability on Jetstar in Business / StarClass which got me wondering if Qantas have reduced Jetstar award availability. I doubt they have, but would hate for that to be the case.

Jetstar Asia and Jetstar Japan redemptions will also be available from now on too –

“The ability to book flights on Jetstar’s network in Asia means members can use points to fly from Sydney to Tokyo on Qantas and onwards with Jetstar Japan to Osaka, Sapporo, Fukuoka and Okinawa” – Lesley Grant, CEO, Qantas Loyalty.

If you’re interested, there’s some more thought on this over at AusBT.
