The lack of updates around here has been because I’ve just returned from a round the world trip in Business and Premium Economy, for roughly the cost of an Economy ticket – by using British Airways Executive Club miles and Qantas points.

I was traveling with my partner and our 4 month daughter, and was determined to not have to deal with Economy whenever possible as we were on the road with someone so small. In typical new-father fashion, I wanted our paths smoothed, but certainly couldn’t afford to splurge on Business tickets.

It was quite a trip.

Prior to booking it, I set myself a challenge of sorts – work up an around the world itinerary on oneworld airlines for within $1000 of a Sydney – London return in Economy, give or take. That meant around $3000 per person for the whole trip. $3k per person along with the not too vast number of miles that I had accumulated over the past 6-9 months – detailed below – it was going to be a tough challenge.

I’m in the process of reviewing almost all of the legs in more detail, so if you’re keen for more detail on how I accomplished the premium experiences at less than premium prices, then tune in for individual summaries for each leg which I’ll post over the next couple of weeks.
